Shin Godzilla Set for US Release in October
Funimation Entertainment has revealed the details for the highly anticipated US release for the upcoming Toho Company Godzilla reboot, Shin Godzilla. Per the official website, the film is going to get a limited theatrical release in the United States from October 11 to October 18.
The film was already released in Japan earlier this summer, where it grossed $51.6 million. This new iteration of the King of the Monsters is quite interesting as it’s directed by Hideaki Anno, the director and creator of the popular anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion, and also the Evangelion Rebuild series of movies. This marks the 29th Toho Godzilla movie.
Speaking on the theatrical release of the kaiju movie, Funimation CEO and President Gen Fukunaga stated: “We are thrilled to bring Shin Godzilla to theaters across North America this October. Toho established Godzilla as one of the most iconic monsters in science fiction history and we’re honored to now be a part of that history with the theatrical release of this new movie. Fans will not want to miss this limited theatrical event.“
So far the new monster movie is looking fantastic and a welcome addition to the Godzilla pantheon. It looks like it could even end up being superior to the 2014 Hollywood reboot. Shin Godzilla stars Hiroki Hasegawa, Satomi Ishihara and Yutaka Takenouchi.
