Mass Effect Remastered Unlikely to Happen
If you were hoping to get remastered versions of the Mass Effect trilogy at some point, it’s probably not a good idea to hold your breath. Speaking on a recent edition of IGN Unfiltered (via VG247), Electronic Arts CCO, Peter Moore, revealed that a remastered version of the original Mass Effect trilogy for current-gen consoles is unlikely to happen in the near future.
Moore said that EA is “focused on delivering for the future” and not revisiting the past. Granted, a new Mass Effect game is already being worked on for current-gen consoles, and it’s release is just over the horizon. Plus, BioWare is probably focused on just creating that game, and it would probably be a lot of extra work to oversee some remastered versions.
Regarding the prospect of remastering the series, Moore said, “Is there demand? Yes, there’s thousands of people who want it. Do we need millions? I don’t know. Our blinders are on and [we are] looking toward future. If you allow yourself to take the easy road – not to diss remastering great franchises – but there are so many opportunities for us to have people go to something else.”
He added: “We want to focus on the future and delivering new IP and new experiences. There’s easy money to be made all over this industry, but the real focus should be on being player-first and focused on delivering new IP and new experiences. We just feel like we want to go forward. There’s a little thing called Mass Effect Andromeda that we’re totally focused on at BioWare and it’s gonna be magnificent.”
In terms of the Mass Effect franchise, Mass Effect Andromeda is due to arrive arrive next year for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.
