Paul Feig Talks New Gadgets and Ghosts For Ghostbusters
With the “reboot” of Ghostbusters coming July 15th, many are still wondering what we can expect from the modern day version. The first two films clearly had limitations do to the technology of the time. Where as now it’s not much of a problem as long as you have the money.
As noted by IGN, Paul Feig has gone into great detail in a report that talks about these new upgrades. The two things he highlights are the ghosts, and the gadgets. For the ghosts, there will be several humanoid ghosts that are murderers and overall bad people who come back to haunt others. Feig notes though that won’t be the only kind in the film.
““We’ve got a lot of humanoid ghosts that way but then I also wanted to have other creatures because my feeling was like the more he [the film’s villain] is energising stuff, he’s pulling weird stuff in from other places too. So we have one in this rock concert scene that’s a bit more kind of a demon-ish, alien-ish kind of creature. Because I didn’t want it all to be humanoid because I wanted to have fun with different things.””
Then of course there’s the gadgets, which will be many in this new movie:
“When the movie first came out back then, it was really cool to watch them shoot those proton guns. Now it’s still cool but that thrill wears out quickly vs they then grow from there and they actually have side-arms and these more hand-held devices that they use. So they can actually get in there and grapple with ghosts and we have a set-piece in Time Square that is really fun that was very action-packed. And also wanted them to be able to fight stuntmen and be able to do real stunts.
We invented so many weapons we couldn’t use some of them! In the fight scene you’ll see Lesley Jones’ character has this big gun strapped onto her thigh, and we never got to use it. We had an embarrassment of riches.”
