Onimusha Warlords To Be Remastered For Modern Consoles
With all the talk these days about game preservation (and, in many cases, the lack thereof), it’s relieving to see classics from long out of production consoles be revived — especially for consoles that are hard to emulate. The landmark Dreamcast game Shenmue was just remastered and released last week, and now Onimusha Warlords — originally released for the Playstation 2 — will be revived by Capcom in its original form.
By “original” we mean the same low-poly models of the period. The game will play the same, but it will look much cleaner, with a 1080p 16:9 presentation, dual analog stick support, an Easy Mode for today’s wimpy players, and a new soundtrack. For those who’d consider that last detail blasphemous, you can switch to the original.
Onimusha: Warlords follows the battle-filled journey of samurai Samanosuke Akechi and ninja Kaede on a quest to save Princess Yuki from a legion of mysterious demons who have invaded Inabayama Castle. As the two travel throughout the castle, they unravel a malevolent plot by those who would serve the evil lord Nobunaga Oda. Using sword-based combat, a magical Oni Gauntlet and puzzle solving, players need to call on both brawn and creativity to defeat the demonic foes.
Onimusha Warlords is coming out on everything January 15, 2019 — Playstation 4, XBox One, Nintendo Switch and PC. Of those systems, however, only PS4 and XBox will get a physical version (big mistake if you ask us — Nintendo gamers are big on physical stuff, just look at the business Limited Run gets now). The best thing is the price — just $20. Cool!
