NYCC 2017: Punisher Will Not be At Show Due To Las Vegas Tragedy
After the arrival of the Defenders, the Marvel/Netflix collaborations officially began their “Phase 2” and that would start with The Punisher. Though a release date was not given (and still hasn’t been given) we do know it’ll arrive this year. But when? Well, all eyes were on New York Comic Con to reveal that as a major panel was planned to show off the upcoming series and likely reveal more details about it. However, that doesn’t seem to be the case now.
Due to the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, Marvel and Netflix have decided to not to show the series at the show this year, in a joint statement the two said:
“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas. After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”
Given the very violent nature of the Punisher series, it’s likely they’re trying to be respectful to the families who lost their loved ones due to gun violence. It’s still possible for details about The Punisher to be released during NYCC, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
