Nintendo’s NX Console Could Be More Than One Machine
Rumors about Nintendo and the consoles they make in secret get thrown around a lot. The difference with this latest rumor? The source is the Wall Street Journal (you have to subscribe to the paper to read the full article, so just stick with us).
According to the WSJ, their sources have reason to believe that:
(1) Nintendo is sending out dev kits for their next console, codenamed the NX, to software developers right this minute
(2) Having learned from past snubbings (I sure hope so), Nintendo is making sure the guts of the NX are cutting edge and capable of displaying the latest graphics while running the newest engines. So about the size of that hard drive….
(3) The NX may actually be more than one device, and this is the most interesting part. People have whispered in the past that Nintendo should consider folding their always-successful handhelds in with their sometimes-successful home consoles, and now they may actually be doing it. The WSJ suggests the NX’s main gamepad will also function separately as a handheld device. Not only that….
(4) The NX may actually be more than TWO devices. There could be plans to introduce additional, optional gizmos that interact with the NX — though this is hard to conceptualize when we know so little.
(5) Could it arrive in 2016? It has a good chance. The sources that WSJ won’t name say Nintendo hasn’t decided on a launch date yet, but a Holiday 2016 street date could happen if they aim for it.
I’d also like to add the Wii U has been a lot of fun, and it’s a crying shame only ten million other people besides me know that.
