Spooky in Love ~ Cursed Heiress Helps a Prosecutor Crack Cold Cases

“Spooky in Love” (aka “Chilling Romance”) is a 2026 Korean drama, 12 episodes, categorized as Horror, Fantasy or Supernatural, Crime, Mystery, Romance, and Comedy (Rom-Com). It is a remake of the 2011 Korean film “Spellbound” and is streaming on Netflix.

  • Memorable Quote: “I didn’t think just holding your hand would have them haunt me like that.”

SUMMARY: A ghost-seeing hotel heiress and a prosecutor terrified of the supernatural form an unlikely partnership to solve mysterious deaths.

♦ I See Dead People, But Don’t Know Why They Come to Me

In “Spooky in Love”, the story revolves around Cheon Yeo-Ri, a chaebol heiress and hotel CEO who sees ghosts. She always wears gloves and never allows people to touch her hands. When others touch her hands, they see ghosts too. The curse transfers through touch. Her fiancé insisted on putting the engagement ring on her finger, and later on their wedding day he ran away from her. WHY? Because a ghost scared him out of his wits.

As her fiancé leaves, he exclaimed that he couldn’t believe he could be haunted by just touching her hand. That day Cheon Yeo-Ri gave up on ever having a love life, or a marriage and a happy family. She dedicated herself to her work because that’s one thing she does well, and the ghosts don’t interfere with her work success. She is considered a financial genius in business circles, and her grandmother respects her advice regarding business endeavors, as well as private family matters.

MEET the Prosecutor

Ma Gang-Uk is a prosecutor investigating unsolved murders. He has a brilliant mind, believes in the righteous pursuit of truth and justice, and he’s not bad-looking at all. Oh! One more thing. He’s afraid of ghosts. If he ever met Cheon Yeo-Ri, there’s no way they could ever become a couple. Right? But guess who he met on his way to solving a crime? You guessed it! Cheon Yeo-Ri. He wonders why or how she knew where to find a piece of crucial evidence the police and prosecutor had been searching for. As a prosecutor, he painstakingly puts together pieces of evidence and makes deductions like Sherlock Holmes to solve and prove the crime. Ma Gang-Uk was demoted to the cold case unit after pursuing justice too boldly.

When he asked Cheon Yeo-Ri how she always appears at the crime scene, she said that a ghost tells her. A ghost? Of course, Ma Gang-Uk didn’t believe her. Also, can you imagine him trying to present a case in court saying a ghost helped him solve the crime? Nevertheless, Cheon Yeo-Ri keeps showing up at crime scenes. The ghost part he can’t prove. But her physical presence at every crime scene before he gets there? Now that’s a mystery that needs to be solved. Surely she can’t be a criminal accomplice. Can she? But how does she know? She doesn’t even have access to the investigative records and documents and evidence that prosecutors have. On the other hand … if she really does see ghosts, her ability may be the missing link in his cold-case investigations. They should cooperate. Ya think?

Who is This Guy?

Kang Min-Hwan is an ambitious rival hotel executive and also a long-time friend of Cheon Yeo-Ri. His presence is an annoyance and an unnecessary complication in her life. First of all, even though he is a friend, he is also a rival. On the outside, he looks polished and confident. On the inside, he is insecure, and his ambition threatens both Cheon Yeo-Ri’s position.

A relationship with Cheon Yeo-Ri could be turned into a romance and a profitable business alliance if he played his cards right. Only Cheon Yeo-Ri is not interested in a relationship with him, professional or personal. By contrast, her relationship and partnership with Ma Gang-Uk is slowly building up. The presence of Kang Min-Hwan introduces corporate intrigue and emotional tension. The storyline expands beyond a simple love triangle into a broader exploration of power, legacy, and trust.

Viewership and Rating:

  • IMDb: 7.5 out of 10 stars
  • My Drama List:  8.2 out of 10 stars

My personal rating is the same as MDL.

In “Spooky in Love,” you instantly like the male and female leads as a couple, even before they become a couple. The storyline is quirky: ‘I see dead people, and it ruins my love life.’ Each ghost has a story, and you know it’s going to be fun unraveling each mystery. Plus everybody loves Park Eun-Bin.

The blend of horror and rom-com elements in "Spooky in Love" sounds fascinating! The concept of a cursed heiress helping a prosecutor with cold cases seems like it could lead to some really unique dynamics, especially with the supernatural twists. I wonder how the show balances the eerie aspects with the romantic comedy elements, it's always a challenge to maintain that balance.

Also, I'm curious to know more about how the character development plays out. Do you think the heiress's backstory adds depth to her interactions with the prosecutor? I always appreciate when a drama takes the time to explore character motivations, especially in a genre mash-up like this one. Have you found any standout moments or scenes that really captured the essence of this blend?

I always feel very bad about cold cases. It's like the victims have cried for justice all those years and nobody heard them. But what if the victims could work through someone who could help them get justice? This is a good storyline.
