Tomb Raider Catalyst Is Probably Delayed Into 2028

When Eidos and Amazon Games announced a delay for Tomb Raider: Legacy Of Atlantis, their remake of the first game to prep everyone for the real sequel Tomb Raider Catalyst, you might have expected another delay was coming for that latter game too. You were right. It looks like Catalyst was just shoved into 2028.

Jeffrey Gattis, Amazon’s general manager of gaming, let this slip on a business podcast: “Atlantis comes February 12th of next year and then we’ll follow on in 2028 with the next one. So we’re excited about those. There are some other, you know, AAA things that are in various stages of discussion right now.” When pressed for confirmation, Amazon Games wouldn’t confirm or deny: “We don’t have anything new to share about Catalyst‘s timing,” a rep said to Gematsu. “The game is progressing well and we look forward to sharing more details as we get closer.”

If Tomb Raider Catalyst is indeed a 2028 game, that means no physical disc version on Playstation 5, a big problem for collectors of all things Lara. (The XBox version would be physical, but…bleah.) The game will take place across northern India with some of the largest exploratory environments the series has ever boasted, but little is known other than this and the paragraph covering the plot.

Tomb Raider: Catalyst is set in the wake of a mythical cataclysm that has unleashed ancient secrets and awakened the mysterious forces that guard them. When the most notorious treasure hunters from around the world descend on the region, Lara races to uncover the truth buried beneath the fractured landscape and stop those who would use its power for their own gain. As the ancient world collides with the present, Lara must decide who to trust among rivals and allies to prevent a catastrophe and protect a secret that could reshape the future.

Neither Amazon nor Eidos has officially confirmed the delay yet, but coming out with two AAA Tomb Raider games in one year sounded implausible anyway.
