New Trailer For Funimation’s Sing A Bit Of Harmony
Funimation usually just distributes movies made by other people, but with the upcoming Sing A Bit Of Harmony, they’re co-producing the whole thing. And what they’re bringing to life is a rare genre for anime movies: a musical.
We learned from the first trailer that the plot concerns two teenagers….Shion Ashimori, a transfer student, and Satomi Amano, a chronic loner who’s always in the dumps. With this second trailer released today, we found out the truth about Shion: she’s really a robot. Satomi is put off by her strange quirks, like singing to him in the middle of class, but once he discovers her true nature, he warms up to having her around. Shion’s AI is a work in progress and she’s “not quite market ready,” but her goal is to write an inspiring song that will not only lift Satomi’s spirits but everyone else around her.
The film’s Japanese cast includes Tao Tsuchiya (ERASED) as Shion, Haruka Fukuhara (Kaguya-sama: Love is War?) as Satomi and Asuka Kudo as Touma. Additional cast members include Kazuyuki Okitsu as the popular and attractive Gotchan, Mikako Komatsu (Dr. STONE) as the strong-willed Aya, and Satoshi Hino (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba) as judo club member “Thunder.”
Sing A Bit Of Harmony is being written and directed by Yasuhiro Yoshiura, who won awards for his work on Patema Inverted: Beginning of the Day and Time of EVE. Ichirou Ohkouchi (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, Lupin the Third Part 5) is credited as co-screenwriter. Kanna Kii (The Stranger by the Beach) designed the characters, Hidekazu Shimamura (Trigun: Badlands Rumble, Code Geass: Akito the Exiled) directed the animation, and the studio responsible for animating the thing is J.C.STAFF (Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.)
Sing A Bit Of Harmony will be released in Japan October 29. Details of its US release have not been revealed yet.
