Indie studio Big Village Games is preparing Merek’s Market for its grand opening. It’s a crafting game that takes an old RPG trope and reverses it…you’ve purchased wares from many a medieval shop == now find out what it’s like to run one.
As the employees behind Marek’s Market (the game has a single player mode but supports up to four players at once), you’ve got to provide your customers with the best products in town…but they don’t pop out of nowhere. Often you’ll have to make them yourself, and under a strict deadline. Keeping the shelves stocked is only part of the challenge…dealing with customers is another. Anyone who’s worked retail knows what we’re talking about.
“The last 18 months have been really tough on everyone so what better way to mark the return to “normality” than a session of good, old fashioned co-op gaming set in a store with no masks required?” says Dave Warderley of Big Village Games. “Merek’s Market is fun for all the family – friends away for the summer break? Your parents will totally be useful teammates. Lockdown took its toll? Save the relationship with some quality time. Struggle with the most basic games? That’s fine, just look like you’re doing something useful while your team carries you.”
– Haggling – Get the best price by trying to read customers and discreetly adjusting your prices. – Crafting – Make some beautiful inventions…and some fairly awful looking ones too. It’s hard to argue with a paying customer. – 4 Player local co-op – Sit down with up to 3 friends in a full co-op campaign.
Merek’s Market launches September 15 on Playstation 4, XBox One, XBox Series and Google Stadia.
Awhile back publisher Curve Digital and developer Runner Duck released Space Crew — an intergalactic crew management strategy game (it was easier to say “Space Crew”). If you have the game and think you’ve seen everything, you haven’t as of today…Curve and Runner Duck have expanded its content into a
It’s kind of disheartening to see some projects struggle through the Hollywood machine for over a decade, only to finally see release but land with an anticlimactic thud. Projects like Disney’s Treasure Planet, or FX’s Y The Last Man (just cancelled after one season and ten years of development). Sony’s
The Tomb Raider series turns 25 years old this fall, and Square has…pretty much nothing planned in celebration. As a substitute, they’re showing off video games we DIDN’T get..like Tomb Raider Ascension, a survival horror game planned by Crystal Dynamics in the early 2010s. A survival horror Tomb Raider? It’s
There’s now more than one way to play the dungeon-crawling RPG Gloomhaven. Originally born as a tabletop RPG, it soft-launched in video game form on Steam Early Access two years ago. Since then publisher Asmodee Digital and developer Flaming Fowl Studios have been building up its content, and as of
