Marvel’s Iron Fist Finds Villain in David Wenham
Marvel Entertainment has confirmed the latest bit of casting news for the upcoming Netflix Iron Fist series. Actor David Wenham, (300, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, Van Helsing) has been cast in the role of Harold Meachum. The upcoming series will be available exclusively on Netflix. Wenham joins the cast opposite Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.
In the upcoming series, Meachum is a ruthless corporate leader who was partners with Danny Rand’s parents at the time of their deaths. His role in Danny Rand’s past and future will be revealed over the course of the season. Fans of the comic will know Meachum’s specific role in what happened to Rand’s mother and father.
Speaking on the news, Iron Fist executive producer and showrunner Scott Buck stated: “I’m very excited to have David as our Harold Meachum. David is capable of displaying raw, visceral strength as well as extremely keen intelligence. This will add up to a character of complex depth who will keep us off balance all season.”
Marvel’s Head of TV and executive producer Jeph Loeb added, “David brings both a vulnerability and a danger to his many diverse roles. This key quality creates a gravitas our series requires as Danny unravels the secrets behind Rand Enterprises.”
The show will follow Rand after he returns to New York City after he was gone missing for years. He decides to fight against the criminal element that’s corrupting the city with this kung-fu mastery and the ability to summon the power of Iron Fist. Marvel TV is producing the show in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.
The launch date for Iron Fist will be revealed later on. All 13 episodes of the first season will be available at launch to stream on Netflix.
