Mad Max: Fury Road Fan Theory Debunked By George Miller
The beauty of a passionate fanbase is that they sometimes see things or notice things that may (or may not) tie into the larger mythology the world has created, even if it wasn’t intentionally put there. This has happened recently with the Harry Potter universe, and now, Mad Max: Fury Road, has gotten the fan theory treatment.
This theory is about the titular Mad Max, who was played by Tom Hardy in this movie. The theory is that this is not the original Mad Max from the Mel Gibson triology, but rather was a grown up version of “The Feral Kid” who we see in Mad Max 2. Now, there is some things in Fury Road that make this theory rather credible, regardless of whether you believe it or not. But, director George Miller, though intrigued by this theory, ultimately debunks it, for he tells IGN:
“That’s great… No, unfortunately but that’s a great idea. Only because at the end of Mad Max 2, it turns out the narrator is the Feral Kid as an old man, and he says, ‘He only lives now in my memories.’”
He does note though, that sometimes it’s up to the viewer to say what the story is and isn’t:
“You know what’s really interesting is that in a way these are allegories, and in many ways the story is in the eye of the beholder.”
