Godzilla Roleplaying Game Announced For 2026

When we got this one in, we had to check to see if it had happened before, because it sure sounds like the kind of thing that should’ve existed already. But no, no one’s attempted it: a Godzilla tabletop game. Until now.

Here, it depends on what you mean. A Godzilla-themed game of Clue was just announced not too long ago, and that’s a tabletop thing, technically. But we mean specifically the role-playing type, the one people typically most think of…IDW is, somehow, the first to do it.

IDW owns the Godzilla comic book license, and we guess the terms allow them to make tabletop RPGs as well. The Godzilla Roleplaying Game will be based on their comic. Jervis Johnson, Mark A. Latham, and Gav Thorpe, most known for their work on Warhammer, are teaming up to design the game, which will not use dice — it works with 52-card decks instead, and yet it is not exactly a card game. The Godzilla RPG “puts a team of players in the midst of kaiju attacks with character sheets, collaboration, and playing cards as their tools to defend humanity.” More details are forthcoming.

“Working on a Godzilla RPG is something of a dream come true – and the fact that I get to team up with Jervis Johnson and Gav Thorpe again feels like getting the band back Together!” says co-creator Mark A. Latham (Warhammer, The Walking Dead, Harry Potter). “It’s really exciting to have total freedom in developing a new system: something that really fits with the G-Force era of Godzilla stories, and truly encourages immersive storytelling and character-driven narrative. I think players and DMs alike are going to be very surprised by this game.”

The crowdfunding campaign for The Godzilla Roleplaying Game will launch sometime in March of 2026. In the meantime, IDW plans to kill Godzilla and resurrect him again.

The team behind this is strong. Jervis Johnson and Gav Thorpe both worked on Warhammer, which gives me confidence the system will be solid. A card-based mechanic sounds refreshing. It could help simulate unpredictability in a more cinematic way than dice ever could. I am curious if players will get to control kaiju or just the humans responding to them. If they let us play as both sides, that could make this game stand out even more.

No dice? That part confuses me a little. I like dice because they make tabletop games feel tactile and suspenseful. But maybe the card system will surprise me. Still, I think the biggest challenge will be tone. Godzilla stories are not only about destruction but also emotion and tragedy. If they can make players feel that, I will definitely play.

I love the sound of this project. It feels long overdue. The Warhammer veterans handling the design make me confident it will not be lazy fan service. I want to see how they use the card mechanic to handle kaiju encounters. I hope they also include moral choices about science, government, and the environment. That would make it feel truly like a Godzilla story.

Honestly, I do not care about the mechanics. I just want to see people roleplaying scientists trying to stop a monster they can never truly destroy. If it captures that helpless yet determined energy of classic Godzilla films, then I am in.

The G-Force era reference caught my attention. That means this game will probably mix military action with emotional storytelling. I grew up watching those movies, so if they can capture that mix of seriousness and absurdity, it will be fun. A card-based RPG could make the pacing faster, too. I can imagine missions like evacuations, research, and giant battles.

I am surprised it took until 2026 for someone to make this. Godzilla has been part of pop culture for 70 years. Maybe the rights were always too complicated. IDW having the license makes sense, though. They already built a world through their comics, so expanding into RPGs feels natural. I hope they also add expansions featuring Mothra, Rodan, and Mechagodzilla.

I like how Mark Latham mentioned “total freedom.” That gives me hope this will not just be another adaptation but something original that respects the spirit of the franchise. I wonder if the card system will represent the chaos of kaiju events, like cities crumbling and communication failing. That could make the gameplay unpredictable in a good way.

I recently came across paysafecard sms vodafone where there are many different proven games. You can look at the rating and choose what you like.

With designers like them, the system should shine. Playing as both kaiju and responders would add great depth and replayability!
