Cartoonist Matthew Taranto rose to fame through lampooning video games. His long-running series Brawl In The Family was a Smash-inspired smash, and it was recently collected into a gigantic hardcover. Taranto is also responsible for Gamemaster Classified, the collaboration with Howard Phillips about the early days of Nintendo in the US. Now he’s preparing another book, and this time he’s venturing outside the world of Nintendo to focus on the classic IP from a different property: Mega Man.
What he’s calling Mega Man: Bot in the Family is a collection of hundreds of comic strip gags in the vein of Brawl In The Family, only starring Mega Man, Dr. Wily, Dr. Light, Roll and other characters from the long history of Capcom’s platformer series. Taranto is working with NF Publishing, the company behind the fan magazine Nintendo Force, to make this project a reality. But he’ll also need your help too.
The Kickstarter campaign for Mega Man: Bot in the Family just launched yesterday and has already made three times its goal. Here’s what you can get: a digital copy of the book at the $19 tier, a hardcover physical copy at the $29 tier, and both physical and digital at the $39 tier. Higher tiers get you powered up with a set of art cards, a double-sided wall poster and a bookmark. The highest tiers get you special credit in the book and/or the author’s autograph.
The most interesting thing about Mega Man: Bot in the Family is that it’s not unofficial. It’s been licensed by Capcom through NF Publishing, so this is no mere fanfiction! The campaign will run until September 3, so get your pledges in.
