Free League Founder Holding Live YouTube Q&A December 30
Despite the odds against them, Free League managed to get many games out there in 2020, and found success with some. The Alien RPG (based on the 20th Century Fox series) was released precisely a year ago and grew to become one of the most successful tabletop products of 2020. An expansion set, Destroyer Of Worlds, was released along with a Starter Set in the spring. A virtual tabletop version of the Starter Set was added to the VTT platforms Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds in October, and a second expansion was announced earlier this month.
Last summer Free League introduced Vaesen, an RPG based in Nordic folklore and the old myths of Scandinavia. You and your friends play paranormal investigators in the 19th century who happen to be somewhat paranormal themselves. You have the gift known as “the Sight” which means you can spot extradimensional phenomena that would be invisible to most people. Usually, this takes the form of horrible monsters you must engage in battle with.
In February they published MORK BORG, an artpunk RPG from creators Ockult Örtmästare Games and Stockholm Kartel. They said at the time their game is “about lost souls and fools seeking redemption, forgiveness or the last remaining riches in a bleak and decaying world. Who are you? The tomb-robber with silver glittering between cracked fingernails? The mystic who would bend the world’s heart away from it’s inevitable end?” They add, “The world is dying. And you with it.”
As a final wrap-up to 2020, Free League founder Tomas Härenstam has scheduled a live Q&A stream two days from now. Ask him about any of the above games, games from further in their past or games yet to be released. The Q&A takes place December 30th at 3PM CET (9 AM ET, or 6 AM PT….poor Californians).
