Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger - Brave 33 "Maximum! I Will Protect the Lady"

I thought this episode was great. That entrance was so friggin' epic. I need a KyoryuBlack SHFiguart now :p

Aigaron in love with Candelira? I... actually feel there's precedent for that but I'm not sure . It was interesting to see that his feelings for her can actually suppress his split personality, though I doubt Dogold would approve of that. I also doubt the feelings are requited on Candelira's part, but it would be nice if they were.

Yayoi showing up two episode in a row? Make up your mind show, is she on the main team or just another "Spirit" Ranger :sly:.

It was nice to finally see Pteraiden-Oh again, after what I think has been a really long absence.

I liked that Ian's "playboy" nature was explored, but honestly, those two girls at the beginning and end didn't strike me as the types to need any consoling... poor Utchy .

She can't be a "Spirit Ranger" she's still alive. Remember a couple of episodes back, when she was confused about joining in on the actual Spirit Rangers roll call?

I chopped this up to trying to cram in too many ideals at once.* (*See Kamen Rider Gaim) They had it the right way at first. Let her go with her Grandpa and build a new lab, while also being trained. Perfect! They could've brought her back around late 30's, early 40's episodes.

But noooo, they brought her back a couple of episodes after her departure. A new lab already built, her training complete. She's bringing new beast batteries for everyone, even making brand new ones. :O_O:

It would've made more sense having Violet a Spirit Ranger. Then we wouldn't expect for them to do a whole lot with her. But now having the Violet Ranger actually alive. Creates a dilemma for them, not dragging out her training and new lab built. Creates a bigger dilemma for them, because now they have to figure out what to do with her character. How long are they actually going to keep-up having her make "Beast Batteries"? Then show her fighting with the others at the end? I'm with you, put her ass in the opening and ending credits, dancing with the rest of them. You got 7 alive Rangers and 3 dead ones. Whatever happened to the Daigo crush? This is what happens when you have a show that has been on the air for 30+ years. Everyone looses their way, trying to figure out something new that hasn't been done yet.

Let's not put a "Yellow Ranger" in there, because people associate Yellow with a female. Then why didn't they make her the Yellow Ranger? Especially if they knew they were going to have her take her Grandpa's place. They had Male Rangers being the Yellow Ranger before. The Yellow Ranger from the first Power Rangers was original a male. (Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger)

I'm ranting and ranting now....:anime: But yes, they should make up their minds with her character development.

Do we really need another godawful attempt at romance in this show? It's bad enough that Candelira has to get "love" as her emotion just because she's the only female villain

That said, I think the Erika scenes were rather cute this week. And I doubt Ian was the pigtail-pulling kind of kid. I think he was already charming even at that age, some people already have it as children ...

Hence why I put it in quotations .

Well, I personally think it's interesting :).

Kyoryu 33:

- Utchy practicing outside a temple? I'd practically forgotten he is a Rip Van Winkle samurai. >.>

And he comments on Ian's frivolousness with supposedly loose women... yet in a silly pouting way... since anything further than that might make him come off as uptight, I guess :redface2:

- Erika Stonesfield.... ok, are these people supposed to be Japanese or Europeans-played-somehow-by-Japanese? Are Ian and Erika half-Japanese? I'm not following the thinking behind this.

- See, Utchy's annoyance at Ian might be a good idea for an episode and expound on the former's feudal attitudes, but it's just played for a cheap laugh. Is Utchy supposed to be funny doing all this? This entire execution makes it seem like the show wants the audience to think all of this is no big deal.

And why is this suddenly being brought up after 20+ episodes since Utchy's arrival?

- Remember when stock footage of planes and airports was a common thing in toku?

- I like how Amy "snaps out of it" on Daigo's urging at 6:49. It's cute.

- Good entrance by Ian with the flowers and out of the dark.

- So when Erika saw the Battery, Parasugan, and Ian shooting the monster with the others behind him, that doesn't surprise her. But when he actually suits up, that's the shock?

Sakamoto pulled a fast one on the producers in getting Yayoi to transform, it obviously wasn't in the plan when they thought of Plezuon (the toy) and Doctor Ulshade. The Doctor was probably just going to retire and give the kids the battery for Plezuon. Yayoi hasn't shown getting any stronger, she still mostly relies on the GaburiCanon to fight and she's still busy in the lab. I don't have a problem with her only showing once in a while. Her crush was still apparent in the last episode when she introduces the Victory and Maximum batteries. Remember she start by saying 'I made this for Daigo' but then correct herself with 'I made this for everyone' (I'm paraphrasing). I would like to see her dance though. I think that when the song gets to the part about their partner dinos they should show Ramirez, Tessai and Yayoi dancing :D

Her emotion is 'Happyness', not 'Love'.

I'm guessing they originally wrote her character for an actual foreigner actress, but couldn't book one in time. Ian is probably meant to be half-Japanese.

Maybe she heard of the whole thing with the battery powered robot dinosaurs and superheroes, but seeing the transformation was impressive?

The way ethnicity is presented isn't really a big deal. It's rare in Japanese media, especially that which adapts anime/manga aesthetics, to have "foreign" characters and have those characters actually do a decent job at being "foreign".

Of course once in awhile you get gems like Kane Kosugi or Sugata's assistant girl who appeared in a grand total of one episode, but its hardly the norm.
