I have to disagree with this. You do not realize that we've had the same VAs for the first Yugioh series for its entire run before GX and regardless if it was accurate to the source material or not with the voices , they are what people see as the voices for those characters. Changing them like they changed Pokemon's would just piss people off more than it would help; in fact , besides the repetitive plots and Ash never aging or leaving, the voices made me drop the dubbed version of the show for good. Also , it's far more expensive to redub an entire effing series when you can just use the same ones to dub uncut versions whenever there was not in fact an uncut version made for it . If they are to buy the series , they should try to keep the fans happy ,right?
I am glad that you are challenging me on the point I was making (glad SOMEONE is, anyways). And I like the points you are trying to make, but I feel like your points are based mostly on conjecture...
I understand how iconic and big the series is. But like Cirno said, that's a big can of worms. I dare say that at least half of the VA's that work for 4Kids are really terrible and not at all as talented as they seem. People like Funimation always have more talented people. That might be why the acting on 4Kids' attempt at an uncut dub was "stited", as Cirno said. Take Funimation's dub of One Piece, the voices are just as perfectly matching to the Japanese voices and the acting is leagues better. I've seen Funimation bring in voice actors that weren't part of their cast of regulars, but if they brought in the 4Kids VA's, they'd have to do some really good directing to improve their performance. Not that I'm against it, I just honestly believe that Funimation has better talent under their sleeves.
Honestly, I don't believe that changing the VA cast would hurt things that much. Even Funimation as VAs talented enough to imitate and sound just as good the previous voices. They did this before once with DBZ before making the dub their own thing. And let's be honest, if the Pokemon anime is failing, it's not because they changed the VAs or gave the dubbing rights to a different company. The new VAs have picked up just fine where the old ones left off, even if there was a rough start. The only reason why Pokemon is failing is because of the other reasons you said. Ash never aging, repetitive plots and cliches, lack of originality, etc. Sounds more like you've outgrown Pokemon, as have I. But it was never the change in VAs that caused it to go downhill or caused me to stop watching. And that anime is still on the air and probably still appeals to kids, so it must be doing something successful.
I think a change in VAs would be
noticed, but if people are only watching it an enjoying it for the show itself and not caring about anything else, then they'll get use to it and will soon welcome the new cast. And I don't think it would effect sales either, because it's not the VA cast that determines if DVDs and merch will sell or not. It might be a factor for some customers, but it's not a major determining factor.
The cards are changed cause else they would have to pay extra for each episode due to something thing I can't really remember
Problem is, NAS and TV Tokyo only have rights for the Duel Monsters series. While Toei sit with the first season. Though an OVA movie series covering Yu-Gi-Oh! R would be pretty cool.
Probably would have to pay the company that owns the rights to the actual card game. Either way, even if a new uncut dub is made for Yu-Gi-Oh!, that is the one thing I don't mind still being changed, the names of the cards. You pretty much have to make sure that the dubbed name of the cards matches with the cards being sold in the States. That's how you promote it effectively.
