Your Top 10 most Influential Franchises of the Decade

I'm gonna keep it short and resonable

10) Street Fighter 3: Because it's unique, new, fresh, It got me into the SF franchise and it's not a 1,000,000,000 release of Street Fighter 2

9) Castlevania: I loved this game because of it's great platforming, great story and it influenced me to look into European History. I got a A on my history class That take mom!

8) The Legend Of Zelda: (Ocarina of Time: nuff said)

7) Rival Schools: Though Short lived I loved it's concept from when I first played it in the arcade and it got me wondering if High School Japanese kids fought with other kids from other schools in Tag Team Street fighting.....maybe

6) Resident Evil: Ever since playing the first one I always know never to walk into a mansion in the middle of the night. Actually that common sense. It also introduced me to the concept of "shitting in my pants" as well as using my brain in a video game

5) Pokemon: Well, I was a fan of the anime and I was stoked when I heard a game was coming out.

4) Shinobi: Ever since that faithful day my TV reception was destroyed on 9/11 I killed my boredom and sadness by surfing through my stash of games I don't play. I couldn't stop playing the revenge of Shinobi and the games after

3) Sonic: Whoa, Whoa. I meant Sonic 1-3. Wow. Anyway. it brought me into the world of sonic ever since playing sonic 2

2) Rocket Knigt aka Sparkster: I figure I should cough this one since a new one is coming out soon

1) Micheal Jackson Moonwalker....

JUST KIDDING!!:laugh::laugh::redface2:

For real: 1) Metroid. Because it showed me that Nintendo can be badass when they wanna be. I played Super Metroid and it blew me away ever since then I've seen Metroid as a series that can make me surpirsed at the things Nintendo can do. Also for the biggest surprise of the franchise....SAMUS IS A CHICK!!??

You sadden me! SADDEN! Most influential titles.

World of Warcraft
The one and only. When businessmen talk about MMOs, they're thinking about WoW. It took everything that Everquest started, refined it, and sold it to the masses. This is the one that every MMO emulates and wants to be, and tries specifically not to be.
Upcoming Takeoffs: The Old Republic, Allods Online

Devil May Cry
And offshoot or the Onimusha/Resident Evil set, this game was all about STYLISH HARD ACTION. Button mashing. Bigger combos. This was hard, because most would say God of War in this slot, but personally I feel God of War took a lot from Devil May Cry and refined it.
Upcoming Takeoffs: God of War III, Bayonetta

Neverwinter Nights
Bioware's first Aurora Engine game. Aurora was the predecessor to pretty much every engine and game that followed, including KOTOR, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. Everything Bioware really started here in my opinion.
Upcoming Takeoffs: Mass Effect 2, Alpha Protocol

Gears of War
Cover and the third person camera. Enough said.
Upcoming: Quantum Theory

Guitar Hero
Though it technically started with DDR, Guitar Freaks, and Beatmania, Guitar Hero brought rhythm gaming and overpriced peripherals to the mainstream.
Upcoming: RockBand spinoffs, GH spinoffs, and Tony Hawk Ride.

Madden
FIFA is the largest selling of EA Sports franchises, but the tech for all the games? Starts with Madden. FIFA sells more, but Madden is definitely EA's developmental flagship each year.
Upcoming: More EA Sports

Symphony of the Night
What's that? You can sell an old game with only a few tweaks to provide HD resolution! SHOCKING! Puzzle Fight was the first real HD Remix I can think of, but Symphony of the Night opened the floodgates to classic games with a few tweaks.
Upcoming: Sonic HD

Modern Warfare
Every real life base first person shooter was based in World War II. Now it's all about being in the here and now. It started here.
Upcoming: Medal of Honor, Spec Ops: The Line

LEGO Star Wars
Thus began LEGO Batman, LEGO Indiana Jones, and LEGO Rock Band.
Upcoming: LEGO Harry Potter, LEGO MMO

Grand Theft Auto
Brought the 'sandbox game' to the world. Crackdown, Saint's Row, Infamous, Red Fraction: Guerilla, Assassin's Creed, Just Cause, etc... all comes from this pedigree. Everything is going open world now. Everything.
Upcoming: Sequels.

How you guys went influential and missed GTA is beyond me.

OMG!!!!!!!

how could I forget about GTA......**palm face**

They definitely revolutionized the open world/sandbox genre. No mistake there. It was actually 10 or 11 on my list, but I'm more of a fighter fan so I went with XvC

No God of War? Time to initiate a button mash mini-game to see whether or not I successfully give you all the finger!

As I said, the basic gameplay was Devil May Cry and the Quick Time Events actually hit mainstream in Resident Evil 4 first.

I'd still say GOW is more influential, developers are more likely to go to that game for reference than Resident Evil. My bet, anyway.

GoW's pretty influential, though it's influenced is going to be more apparent in 2010 than it's been till now. GoW itself is somethign to shoot for, but what it is deep down is a very polished DMC.

The Legend Of Zelda: (Ocarina of Time: nuff said)

3) Sonic: Whoa, Whoa. I meant Sonic 1-3. Wow. Anyway. it brought me into the world of sonic ever since playing sonic 2]

The parts I quoted above were both not from this decade, so they don't count. I think people are forgetting how this thread is focusing on the decade that just finished. (2000 - 2009)
