Every single telemarketer I've encountered is rude. They refuse to follow Federal law (my number is on the DO NOT CALL list) and refuse to remove my number. What's worse is that "charities" are exempt from the DO NOT CALL and CAN solicit a person under certain conditions. Those "charity" calls are worse then normal solicitors because they refuse to take NO for answer and even use tactics like, "but won't you feel bad?" Pft, I feel bad when money leaves my pocket for some stupid scam.
Case in point, we keep getting phone calls (despite me telling every single one to not call back and remove my number from their database) from a "charity" called "WA Lodge Association" (caller id). This "charity" will then identify itself as "American Association of State Troopers Washington Lodge" or as "Washington Lodge of the American Association of State Troopers". I listened to the guy's script once (only because he refused to listen to me) and they make it sound as if they are associated with the Washington State Troopers Association (legit charity that belongs to the WASP department). They're not associated and in reality, the organization is based in FLORIDA! Pft, not getting my money.
Then there have been the phone calls from the charities looking for people to donate to the "(Local) County Dive and Rescue" but the problem with that is that the local county dive and rescue do NOT solicits over the phone and have said so numerous times in the local news media. They have said that such phone calls are typically from "charity" scammers on the opposite side of the state or are in other states. The only time they solicit for money is when they go to the media and tell them something like, "hey we're going to be selling raffle tickets from this date to that date. You can buy them at this location and that location." Last time I received one of those phone calls the guy actually had the balls to say, "well what if your child fell in the river and drowned but it could have prevented by new equipment for those divers?" My reply was, "Well, I'm sorry you feel that way but considering the (local) County Dive and Rescue doesn't soliciate over the phone, I can't give my money to a scammer even if you are trying to make me feel bad." The guy cussed me out then hung up. lol
I could go on and on about the telemarketing calls I get ranging from "you won! but we need your bank info" to "hi, we're calling to offer you a credit card". People who work for telemarketing companies are either very brave (because there is the chance they won't get paid) or very stupid or very crooked.
As for caller id, I can't ignore the calls even if it's listed as "private" because many times the local school's number comes up as "private" or "unknown" when the teachers are using an inside line rather then the main line.
