your current top 10 for 08

gaiatron

I'll show you something scary...
list your current top 10 toku shows for 08 here:

1. b-fighter - as FK said, an epic toku, pwned black on my top 1
2. krblack - still the best
3. timeranger - chrono changer!!!
4. kamen rider kuuga - to all new gens, kuuga is the king!!!
5. ultraman gaia - simply the best hei sei ultra show since tiga
6. ultraman tiga - rena.....
7. ohranger - expecting for an ohred/ohgirls threesome
8. shaider - pinoy classic
9. janperson - bill goldy pwns metal hero ass(then blackbeet pwns his ass)!!
10. uchuu keiji zaido - the last few eps were great.

1. Sh15uya - amazing drama. Great characters and story, great fight coreography. Mark Musashi :D
2. GARO - another great series, though at times predictable.
3. Cutie Honey the LIVE - started out fairly interesting as I wasn't in the mood for all the ecchi, but developed into a great series.
4. Kamen Rider Blade - great series, amazing ending.
5. Kamen Rider 555 - great series, great development for some characters even though it was let down by piss poor development for others and a terrible ending.
6. Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger - great series so long as you consider it an HOMAGE to Kung Fu movies and Dragonball, NOT a rip off.
7. Mahou Sentai Magiranger - nice series with good character and designs. Family dynamic worked well.
8. Kamen Rider Den-O - fun series start to end; even though it dragged on a little, it wasn't like the writers didn't have a clue because they wove it all very well in the end and did it justice.
9. Kamen Rider Kabuto - disliked by a lot of people but I couldn't help enjoying it. Designs were sweet, character development and drama when at its best was very good. Tendou sucked but the way it was presented I always thought of Kagami as the main protagonist until later on when it felt more even. And 'soft spot for first rider series' etc.
10. GoGo Sentai Boukenger - 'soft spot for first sentai series' etc.

Sorry there aren't more older series on here, just find a lot of them too dated to enjoy now...

1. Godzilla (1954) - Like Elvis. Still the King - no matter what they may say!
2. Ultraman (2004) - No other movie ever made me feel that damned giddy watching it.
3. Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla (1974) - Ridiculous fun! It has Monsters, wholesale urban-renewal, scientist, mystics, ancient legends, prophecies, aliens, giant robots, spies, and just about everything you could ask for to be awesome in a movie! Also a great swingin' score from Masaru Sato!
4. Ultraman Max (2005-2006) - Great fun all around, *fantastic* visual style, and ELLY!
5. Gamera 3 The Revenge of Iris (1999) - One of the best visually-crafted kaiju films *ever*.
6. Godzilla X Mechagodzilla (2002) - Not nearly as fun as the original but leaps and bounds ahead of the other three Mechagodzilla films, this moves at a brisk enough pace to keep you hooked. Plus, every other shot is a freaking money shot! Yumiko Shaku is very unproblematic and Michiru Oshima's bombastic score is one of the series' best.
7. Ultra Q (1966) or Ultraman Taro (1972) - I haven't seen all of either of these so I'm not sure which one to give this spot. Taro's *somuchfunohmygod* while Ultra Q just looks simply gorgeous in its 32mm black and white format. I'm almost tempted to give the edge to Ultra Q because Eiji Tsuburaya was so hands-on with it instead of, you know, dead before Taro was even thought of. XD
8. GARO (2004-2005, 2006) - D:
9. Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger (2007-2008) - I am not a sentai fan... At all. Especially nothing from the more recent series. But DAMN this series was a ton of fun! Also, Ran. We are in love. Back off! D:
10. Sh15uya (2005) - Last but most certainly not least! Intense, great characters, well-done (painful!) fighting. I was hooked. Also, the weird oversaturation of the colors gives the whole thing a very eerie feel.

Sorry there aren't more older series on here, just find a lot of them too dated to enjoy now...

Sucks for you!

I'll just be listing series, otherwise it gets too complicated for me.

1. Kamen Rider Hibiki (2005)- I've probably already listed tons of times why this is my favorite series ever. Fantastic characters, wonderful OST and visuals, story was a little disappointing, but it's a series that's hard for me to not like.
2. Kamen Rider X (1974)- Jin Keisuke was an amazing main character in a terribly underrated series. He had to deal with the loss of his father and with the fact that it was pretty much his own fault. Then there's the Mizuki twins who were insane and awesome all at the same time. And one more thing, Apollo Geist? Yeah, he just about kicks every other villain's butt.
3. Ultraman Max (2005)- I know someone will want to kill me for this, but sometimes you just need a series that lets you have fun and takes you back to the very roots of tokusatsu. Kaido was a fun, likable main character and the visuals for the series were awesome.
4. Kamen Rider Agito (2001) - A set of amazing main characters, really stunning and simple suits in the Agitos and the Lords had some of the best villain designs out there. The story between Dark and Light was great, you don't get too many series where god himself is the actual enemy.
5. Ultraman Leo (1974) - Leo himself wasn't the best main character at first, but he became much stronger later on and of course that has to do a lot with Dan. It was a great idea bringing in a seasoned character to play the mentor role and it did wonders for the series until Gen became a great character.
6. Choushinsei Flashman (1986) - I love series that can give the heroes a mission, put them through Hell for it and then...they fail. The series still gave you hope at the end and I loved that bittersweet touch, it made the entire series worth it.
7. Ultraman Nexus (2004) - A lot of people think the series is overrated, and it may be, but it has a lot of strengths. Sure, there's a stretch of episodes that got really angsty and you wanted to slap Komon, but it eventually got better, Jun's departure and finally finding happiness after all that he's seen was great. We later got Ren, who was such a refreshing character, for once in recent tokusatsu we had a character with a tragic past who didn't angst about it. He was happy and looked at life in a great way, just wanting to help people. The rest of the story was great too, even though it was a little packed in the final episodes due to being canceled, it was still a great plot.
8. Gekisou Sentai Carranger (1996) - A fun Sentai that really helped breathe new life into the series. The main cast of characters was great, the series had great points of hilarity and still stood up on its own as a great series outside of the parody factor.
9. Madan Senki Ryukendo (2006)- Again, sometimes you just need a series that's fun. Unlike a lot of other "fun" series though, this one did it in a great way. It had pretty good comedy, really great looking suits and villains and wonderful music, both OST and vocal. The story was a bit simplistic, but these characters were really fun to be around. To me the series felt like it was 50 episodes with episodes 51 and 52 being DtV specials that closed up the story really good.
10. Ultraman Gaia (1998) - A really epic series with a good hearted main character who was human and made mistakes just like the rest of us. At first it was a little odd having a bunch of genius kids work on saving the world, but it slowly started to make sense within the context of the series. The final episode was epic and we also got a follow up special, something I think a lot of other tokusatu need.

Honorable mentions: Gekiranger, Timeranger, Bioman, Jetman, Kakuranger, Gingaman, Maskman, Sazer X, KR BLACK, Zubat, Metalder, Jiraiya

7 kamen rider kuuga

In very rough order:

1) Kamen Rider 555/Faiz (2003)
Quite possibly the greatest toku I've ever watched! :buttrock: I'm close to finishing it, and it just never lets up!

2) Kamen Rider Agito (2001)
The best series I had ever watched before I saw Faiz. It got kicked back into the #2 spot, but only by a hair. This show is just as epic as Faiz! :buttrock:

3) Kamen Rider: THE FIRST (2005)
Watched this one on new years, as the clocks struck midnight. Awesome movie! Just... awesome! The "making of" featurette was cool as well.

4) Chousei Kantai Sazer X (2005)
Loved the first two, and this show is just so much fun! Too bad it's the last... :disappoin

5) Kamen Rider Ryuki (2002)
The reason I named my computer "Ryuki"! Plot issues aside, this show kicked ass! :buttrock:

6) Kamen Rider Black (1987)
My first toku ever is still as epic as it's always been. Classic toku never gets old, and the few episodes I've seen this year have been just as entertaining as all the rest before them. With Shadow Moon in the mix now, things should start to get even more awesome!

7) Gojira (1954)
A true classic. Need I say more?

8) Kamen Rider Kiva (2008)
I'm liking it so far... It's interesting.

9) Kamen Rider Den-O (2007)
Not the greatest rider show, but by no means was it bad. I loved it for what it was, and it had some memorable characters.

10) Shichi Sei Toshin Guyferd (1996)
Low-budget and cheesy? You bet! I like shows like that, and this one's just oodles of fun!

Honorable Mention for Boukenger and Gekiranger. Not really my thing, but they were still cool.

I'd add Kamen Rider Blade to that list, but I can't remember if it was before or after new years that I finished it. I'm also watching Kuuga this summer, so that'll likely find it's way into the list.
