Would a female lead rider work?

I'd prefer anyone but a hajime like character. Not only would he fall into that uber-typical bad boy archetype (and fetish fuel for the female audience) he'd also succeed in pissing me off on a profound level...much like hajime did.

Then again I'm not the target audience we're shooting for so....if it works :P

LOL. That's just from the Kamen Rider show in my mind. The Female lead should be hot...but would be so much like Kenzaki. As for the secondary rider...It would be this guy...

He's got the perfect rage face...next to Tetsuo Kurata and Keiichi Wada. And yeah...I was thinking the secondary rider would be better off as a Kageyama-type -- an extremely arrogant franchise guy (minus the whole going emo thing)

In terms of whether or not a show like that would be good, well, there's no reason why not. Just write a good Rider show where the lead happens to be a female.

Now, would it be successful? Probably not. A female lead would probably be a bridge too far for Rider's target demographic, and it'd be hard to merchandise in a mainstream sort of way.

I think we need to see female cast just getting into fights more regularly and more female secondary Riders before a female lead is really something that's on the table.

I remember myself as a kid. I always liked heroines. And fighting heroines too.
"Boys can't like girls as protagonists" seems to be at least to a certain extent some kind of prejudice to me, to be quite honest.

Then again I can't say I'm exactly normal!

Well...I guess I'm kind of a deviant myself. I'm a dude, yet I really want to see a Female lead rider, if only to make it more balanced, since It's kind of unfair that only the dudes get to kick ass.

Though...I do agree with Lynxara. It's not gonna be very successful, since Little boys (the target demographic) would struggle to imagine themselves as the hero if the lead is a girl.

Still....I'm still hoping for a Female lead rider, even if it's not in a full series. It could be in a six-episode or so miniseries, or a movie. Especially since we've seen Toei break barriers before. We got the first female Rider in Femme back in Ryuki, the first Female rider to NOT DIE in Natsumikan back in the Decade "finale"...and the First Female Red in Shiba Kaoru.

Though in that Vein, the hard-working peeps at Toei Animation better roll up their sleeves and whip up a kickass Male ally for the Precures XD

I think it's a combination of "boys don't like female protagonists/boys can't take a female warrior seriously", and thinking that girls in the audience would rather see themselves as the damsel being rescued by the big strong man than as the heroine. We know that Toei does make a deliberate play to female audiences by casting hot guys in the lead, so it wouldn't surprise me if they held that attitude. (I don't agree it's necessarily true, though. PreCure is popular with young girls, female Sentai Rangers are popular with young girls ...)

Personally I don't think it'll happen anytime soon, just because it seems to be a fairly universal thing for young boys to go through a "girls are yucky" phase, and Toei aren't going to risk their show aimed at young boys losing some of the audience because they happen to have caught them in that phase. But I do think it's high time we got a female secondary rider. It would have made no storyline difference if Accel, Birth (either of them) or Meteor had been female characters. But the nearest we've got is Satonaka becoming Birth's supporter.

In my opinion, the closest we got is Megumi as IXA.

And it's not so much about the "girls are yucky" phase....I think it's more "girls are weak." At least that's the impression I get.
