Wizard Opinions Thus Far?

.......
I don't like how so much of it takes place in the day time.

ok the other things yeah, but this just seems like the biggest picking of nits ever.:anime: No rider series takes place during the night as it's primary focus. Not even a rider series about a vampire.

Night shoots cost money. Makes you wonder how much is blown on GARO and the near constant night shots.

Anyway. I like the series but I feel there's so much wasted potential. The early Phantoms were interesting because it wasn't just "Now let the fear of death drive you to despair" but it was literally something about the GotW (Guest of the Week).

But I really wish the show would try something new, be bold, try new things. That practically a four parter with the Draco-Timer and Phoenix is one of my favorite things because it felt like four episodes connected. Hell even the Christmas episode was quite good.

And it have some likable characters, Gremlin and Phoenix, amongst them.

In conclusion. A lot of wasted potential, and hopefully the last part will make it do something mindblowing.

I really like Wizard, but that only out of the strength of the characters themselves. Story-wise, it has don't very poorly sine the bulk of the plot until now can be summarize with the phrase "Haruto fights Phantoms and gets a power-up every other battle".

Still like it better than Fourze, and in my ranked list of all KR series I've seen (at this moment) I would place it closer the top than the bottom.

It's better than Kamen Rider's lowest points (Fourze, Faiz) by leaps and bounds, but its nowhere near say...W/Agito/Kuuga levels of storytelling. It's comfortably in the middle and while there was a long period of time where the story just kinda paused and didn't go anywhere that mattered, since the power-up stuff started its been slowly getting away from that and moving towards something more interesting.

I have a lot of love for the series, if only because the main character isn't an idiot and the costume designs and fight scenes are fairly solid. Aside from All-Dragon (which we probably won't see anymore now that he has Infinity) none of the CGI has pissed me off.

Also, sending Phoenix into the sun was pretty funny to me. The guy was a lame character anyway. "Rarrgh! I'm angry! I wanna break ****!" I realize people hate Gremlin (inexplicable to me--these are the same fucking people that liked ENTER...) but he's been exponentially more interesting and has done far more to move the plot forward than Phoenix ever did.

I think Keith's just still hyped on Garo lol :anime:

Quite possibly. Wizard is just too damn shiny and lacking in a feeling of danger for me. More about an excuse to do a form change fashion show versus transforming to become a warrior that needs to battle against dark forces.

I disagree. Wizard doesn't form change anymore than the average rider with different forms. I think the most hes form changed in a given battle was against Phoenix.

*likes both Enter and Gremlin*
*scuttles away into the distance*

How, may I ask, has he progressed the plot?

Phoenix spurred the discovery of Flame Dragon form. Phoenix spurred the discovery of All-Dragon. Phoenix greatly affected Rinko's view of Phantoms and their mission.

Gremlin has.........what? What has Gremlin done? Or do you mean the individual arc plots? If that's what you mean then yes, Gremlin participates a lot more than Phoenix did. But then again so has Medusa as of late.

Phoenix was, most importantly, a rival to Haruto. He progressed Haruto's emotional state, his powers, and his motivations. He was the only character to really challenge Wizard in a fight repeatedly and posed a danger beyond any single arc. That builds tension, which this show sorely lacks.

A character doesn't need to be eloquent to be meaningful. Sometimes "Rarrgh! I'm angry! I wanna break ****!" is the round-shaped peg for the round-shaped hole.

Looking back at OOO after watching half of Wizard, I realize a lot of things it did somewhat well despite it not being the strongest one in recent years. It had a lot of memorable moments, and I think Wizard, in all of its fancy powers, elaborate fight scenes and colorful designs just lacks in anything memorable and impacting. I feel like it doesn't have a lot of staying power with me as a viewer. Half the time the previews don't even do a good job of drawing people in.

The thematic strengths in the previous two definitely keep some semblance and order to the middle of the season, but I just feel like we're stalling here the whole time.

The final arc can make up for it though. If the last 20 episodes are executed well, it can sorta lessen the blow of such a slow-moving first half.
