Well, guys, I've finished write up on my winter anime that I want to see.

  1. Rio - Rainbow Gate
  2. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
  3. Infinite Staratos
  4. Wolverine (Marvel)
  5. Cardfight!! Vanguard
  6. Freezing
  7. Beelzebub
  8. Dragon Crisis
  9. Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka
  10. Fractale
  11. Yumekui Merry
  12. Suite Precure

That's what I'm looking forward to!

Oh crap, was it confirmed for 13 episodes already?

It seems likely. Freezing wasn't THAT old when I found it two years ago; there's maybe four or five volumes to adapt?

It's kind of like when they adapted Omamori Himari, which went from interesting supernatural universe to random harem series. The material simply was not there.

So I just watched the first episode of Rio: Rainbow Gate. It's an anime series based on a pachinko game mascot.

The star of the show is a superhero gambling dealer whose superpower is luck and teaches people life lessons through absurdly well-directed fighting-anime-style gambling sequences.

The women are all adults and, while fanserviced a lot, are drawn like full-bodied adult women. The scenery porn is amazing.

I kind of love it. I think I love a show about a pachinko mascot. I don't know how to feel about this.

I honestly did not like the first episode. It had no substance and no incentive for me to continue. The poker game was kinda neat, but the whole show is a pretense for "let's stick Rio in as many sexy outfits as possible" and if you're gonna do that, at least give me something of a plot or some funny comedy I can laugh at.

I can appreciate that they're at least using an adult character design but the show is just vapid.

That's fine. I'm not sure the show will have any legs for me. It's just that I went in expecting a dull, ugly titty show that we would shut off after five minutes so, so when it was actually kind of fun and had some effort put into it, my delight was heightened a millionfold. (Kind of like watching Mazinkaiser SKL, really.)

As far as I can tell the plot is probably going to be "Rio helps various people who come to the casino." That's okay for me; I don't mind episodic shows. I watched all of Okami-san because it was fun and pretty. As long as it stays on the same level of insanity I won't mind.

As for dressing Rio up... she's so well-drawn I can't even be offended by it. As an artist, it pleases me my eyes to see a woman drawn so well, in the same way it pleases me to watch a beautifully-directed robot fight. Especially when so many women in anime are constantly dressed up while also being drawn poorly, and being objectified far more than Rio was in far creepier ways.

Nothing shown so far looks any good. I thought about Dragon Crisis before, but that trailer just showed me I won't even bother with that.
