Replaced protagonists can still maintain their iconic status if they have a strong fan base and are well-written characters. The success of a franchise is not solely dependent on the protagonist, but on a combination of factors, including gameplay, storytelling, and characters. The characters in Final Fantasy 1 may not have the same level of depth and development as later characters in the franchise, but their role in establishing the Final Fantasy universe is significant. While they may not be as well-remembered as other characters, they still hold an important place in gaming history.
 
Final Fantasy 1's characters may have been forgotten by some fans, but they still have a devoted following. Many gamers appreciate the simplicity of the game's character classes and enjoy customizing the characters to fit their playstyle.
