What's with the hate of Kamen Rider Wizard?

The way they chose to handle the "progression", or lack of, the phantoms just doesn't line up with how they handle the power ups. Theoretically, the monsters that Wizard is facing right now in general aren't any stronger than the ones he was facing in the beginning of the show.

In general, it seems like the Dragon forms just resulted in power ups against Phoenix. Somehow Medusa and the random weekly phantoms kept up with them, even without having gotten stronger, for no reason at all, even though Phoenix was initially stronger than Haruto and needed power ups of his own to keep up with the dragon forms. Infinity, though, has actually kept its power against random phantoms... but that means it results in completely one sided matches and there's no reason for Haruto to go with anything else.

It's just lazy writing. They were forced to write in all these forms, but didn't actually want to change their story to make them fit. I remember OOO being rather inconsistent at times regarding match ups (like how the elemental weakness appeared out of nowhere and was ignored, or even reversed as it became convenient), but even it had a much better sense of progression than Wizard, with the hybrid yummies and dino yummies that appeared in later episodes.

In fairness, after Gentarou managed to figure out how it worked, there was no drawback to Cosmic States as well.

Well, it did deactivate all foodroids, but, yeah, that's it. Still, he was facing only Horoscopes, and the three stronger Horoscopes (Sagittarius, Leo, Virgo) also often got in the way too by this point of the show, Wizard basically has no equivalent to that. He only had a brief encounter with Wiseman and that's it. No other phantom has even matched Infinity yet and there hasn't been any progression among the phantoms since the start of the show, aside from Phoenix's.

Isn't only some of the Heisei Riders' ultimate form have major drawbacks in using them? I believe it's only Ultimate, King, and Putotyra that have an effect that turn the user into a berserk state when using them, although Hyper have that Hyper Clock Up malfunction and Emperor draws out Wataru's Fangire instinct I guess. Shining have none, it's actually Burning that have it. Armed drawback is only at the beginning, after Hibiki's training, he can freely use the form. Extreme require perfect sync between Shotaro and Phillip, just like Gentaro need to have his friendship level with the Rider Club at max. Survive, Blaster, Liner, Complete, and Infinity have none I think.

Anyway, my gripes about Wizard is that there is so many fillers episode and little development. Most Heisei Riders drop the filler part and jump straight to the plot at around mid-30 or early-40. Even Den-O stop fooling around after the Liner arc. Although Decade is also guilty of this with episode 20-29 being filler. There's also the fact that the deuteragonist rarely appear and have little development.

Wasn't Shining form's drawback that you had to be bathed in sunlight to use it? Basically it was only useable during daytime.

Was about to say the same thing but you beat me to it lol.

SPOILERS ALERT

Actually Blaster had a drawback as well. Although it wasn't directly referenced, but it was implied: Using the Faiz/Kaixa/Delta gear consumes orphnoc DNA permanently, and when it's almost depleted you start to decay/turn to dust as evidenced by Takumi and Kusaka. Takumi was an orphnoc, Kusaka (along with his whole class) was injected with orphnoc DNA. Orphnocs have more orphnoc DNA than humans with injected orphnoc DNA, which is why Kusaka was 'dying' before Takumi. It was either stated or implied that once its completely depleted, you die/turn to dust. According to the wiki which is based on the official guidebook or whatever, Orphnoc DNA turns into photon (the lines which appears during henshin and all exceed charge attacks). Blaster form consumes a lot more orphnoc DNA (due to increased stats, jetpacks/cannons, big photon sword, etc) hence it accelerates Takumi's decay/death. If I remember correctly, Takumi only used Blaster form 4 times in the whole series i.e, only as a last resort.

I agree with your point of Wizard having too many filler, about Gates that we will never see again after the episodes.

But reading the word Emperor having a drawback seems funny here, considering Wataru keeps spamming it after its debut.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that, but didn't in the final battle Shouichi transform to Shining directly without sunlight? My guess is that he already fully unlocked and control the power of the Seed of Agito, and thus can transform to Shining without sunlight. And in the SIC Hero Saga, Shouichi use Shining while fighting Mirage Agito during the night. Although I could be wrong about that.

Delta does not consume any Orphnoch DNA, this is why any normal human like Mihara can transform into Delta. Kaixa consume more DNA than Faiz and also doesn't have a warning system, which why the Kaixa Gear outright kill the user unlike the Faiz Gear which forcibly eject if the user doesn't have enough DNA. I always though that, since Faiz turn to Blaster with the help of a Smart Brain satellite, all of the Photon energy are from the satellite, not the user. Takumi also doesn't seem to exert himself when using Blaster either.

You're kinda right there, but I always though that since using Emperor, Wataru is becoming more brutal in nature, which is why Bishop was able to turn him evil in one episode, although I maybe stretching it too far. There's also the fact that Emperor outright destroy the Fangire's soul, leaving Castle Dran with nothing to eat.

You're probably right actually. It's been many many years since I watched faiz so I forgot about the satellite and humans using delta gear. Watching wizard makes me really miss the early heisei riders.

I honestly will never understand this "complaint." The hero got powerups! Okay, great!

That doesn't mean the plot needs to revolve around that more than it already is and give us new villains too - look at what Fourze did. It ruined the Horoscopes and turned them into MOTWs for the sake of "power levels," when that entire arc could and should have been done much better, had they not been so concerned with pumping them out one after the other to be the new MOTWs so Fourze could appear stronger.

Who's to say the monsters don't just get stronger with the hero? Why does it even matter? The villains are the villains, and the only "power level" that really matters is the plot armor protecting the hero (or protecting the villain if the two weeks they're supposed to stick around for isn't up yet). Other than that, I think everything is fair game, and honestly, you can get much more creative fights and matchups if you don't stick to rules like that.

Maybe I'm just really burned by how badly Fourze did it - but look at W. It didn't suddenly introduce a new breed of Dopant for when Xtreme appeared. The monsters were just assumed to be or even appeared to be stronger, and Xtreme was used as need be, and that's exactly what's happening in other shows that do this. Wizard doesn't start with the Dragon styles (usually) - he starts in his lower forms, and when he sees they're not enough, he brings them out - thus, we can assume the monsters are strong enough to warrant them. We don't need some dramatic plot going on to explain this stuff.

... Well, Wizard could use any plot, sure, but as a rule I really dislike this forced sort of thing. It can work if it's part of the show's setup (like, say, how Kuuga did powerups versus how the Grongi were in different ranks from the start) but just shoving something in to accommodate the hero getting new powers just comes off as incredibly forced to me, and can potentially spoil the show, as was the case with Fourze.
