What's so bad about Go-Busters?

Families marooned in a sub-dimension: From the first episode alone, Gingaman executed that concept in a far more interesting way. It had far more interesting ideas than what Go-Busters did. I could feel for the Gingaman losing their Ginga Forest, and was excited to learn more about their lives from it as the series progressed.

Well the main difference between Gingaman and Go-Busters in that regard is that we're shown (however briefly) their lives in the Forest before it was lost, whereas with Go-Busters we're told in flashbacks. Ginga's would be more effective in that sense.

I'm not saying Go-Busters did as good as job with it as it could have. I was probably more anxious about the Flashman's search for their families than these guys' travel to the subdimension. I feel Goseiger wasted more of its potential than I do for Go-Busters; at least the latter had some semblance of drama for their situation.

I guess the only slightly interesting thing was the Gock and Magock origins?

Who? You mean the guns Gog and Magog?

As for the mecha usage, I think the mecha usage is fine. Even though it's pretty much what Battle Fever J did. Except I really loved Battle Fever's mecha fights.

If I could find any footage of Battle Fever Robo, I could verify that...

I don't think Abarenoh and KillerOh look great. But they're definitely not bad. The only mecha that have ever made me go bleh from their designs were the ones in Go-onger, Shinkenger, and Go-Busters.

Agreed on Go-Onger. I think the main five Origami (and the only ones to actually live up to the name) and ShinkenOh are nice. But the Buster Machines are among my favorite Sentai mechas now, both as a throwback to the 90s and their variety of use.

Plus, the Bakuryuu in Abaranger at least had awesome personalities and great voice acting work!

Well we're only taking about designs. The individual Bakuryuu looked good. And I liked the limb swaps more there than in Gaoranger, as they didn't really go overboard with them. (And toywise, they're more interesting.)

I personally far preferred Goseiger. I found it's concepts and ideas far more interesting and unique than anything from Go-Busters. That was one of the main reasons why I was able to watch through Goseiger. I don't really see any semblance of drama in Go-Busters.

Yup the guns.

Oh I do like the five main Origami in Shinkenger as well. And ShinkenOh is fine. Every other "Origami," not so much. xD Though I wasn't too bothered by the first three add-ons. I personally don't see anything 90s about Go-Busters' mecha, other than the show somewhat attempting to try and be a throwback to it and just not recapturing it's magic.

My main beef with the first half of Go-Busters is just how bland everything is. The show has an interesting concept that it doesn't do enough with, its super spy motif is ridiculously underused, and the characters are just plain uninteresting (something I had a problem with to they very end, however). The show kicks into gear with the climax of the first half and although it dawdles again for a while after that (*coughcoughGavancrossovercoughcough*), it gets downright exciting when the real big baddie's plan comes into view. Plus, it pulls no punches with its finale and I have to applaud a tokusatsu every time it goes through with what is at stake.

Also, J. Beet J. Stag was awesome.

"Bland" is the best word to define Go-Busters. Everything about this show is bland and uninspired, cast, characters, designs, settings, the "comedy" etc.

The 2nd half....it's more a horrible trainwreck than bland. The "card" arc, or whatever it's called, is nothing more than an extended filler with no sense of direction whatsoever, besides the occasional new toy insert. Even Enter stops being fun. Then someone remembers the year is ending already and then throw a final arc at us, where they kill Messiah twice (again), then Enter and Escape for the 4th or 5th time - making all the previous battles useless, since they were beating avatars.

It's one of the few series that i'll never rewatch any of it. Just thinking about the awfully huge amount of time the show spent at their boring HQ, with the cardboard commander and operators characters repeating stock phrases, the horrible attempts of comedy by the Buddyroids or chicken freezing jokes, that's enough to keep me away forever.

Enter has been praised as the most competent villain in sentai in a long time. And I just don't see it. Sure, Enter goes outside and schemes. But he does very little fighting. And a lot of his fights simply involve CGI. Not to mention he spends a good amount of his time dressing up and acting ridiculous. He's hardly threatening at all.

You know why it feels like Enter was competent? Because his goals, pretty often, were reduced to just stealing Enetron or other random stuff like parts, instead of seriously threatening action like attacking people, destroying, etc. So of course he could get away with that. Yeah, he had victories, but they were mostly empty.

Not to mention he was pretty much the only villain of this show, so he had to do everything by himself. That made him look good? A few times, definitely...but on the other hand, more interaction with other villains wouldn't hurt, especially when the rangers themselves weren't very interesting.

Although I like Go-Busters as a whole I have a couple of issues with it:

- The production changes made it feel disjointed

Disjointed is a good word for it.

Now, I enjoyed Gobusters all the way through but at times it's like they can't really can't decide if they should just make it a more militaristic Sentai..something I noticed that was changed during the 2nd half after the Gavan team up.

It's suppose to be a show about spies, and yet that theme is very loosely used.

I agree with goty. But myself, I just couldn't get through more than 20 episodes. I tried to watch more later, but it was beyond hope.

I really don't see how they are.

They were useless. Usada did absolutely nothing but get kidnapped and Gorisaki was a cry baby. They did nothing to help the show other than get in the way. Watch the Go-Buster vs Gokaiger movie. They are easily the worst aspect of that movie.

How so? It feels like typical Sentai pacing to me. It just doesn't have really dynamic villains to play off the heroes.

Because there was no pay off. Enter gets the plans to a megazord in episode 8 and nothing comes out of it until episode 15 and it is defeated in mere seconds. Then nothing happens again until the 40s.

He was as useless as the Buddyroids. Enter gave him ideas but he did not want to listen. All he did was whine about how he needed Enertron. He also makes Dokoku (or whatever the name of the main villain in Shinkenger was) look fully developed.

series wasted too much time with mech but the robots were all ugly and boring. there is a limit to what you can do with mech action and they didnt realize that
another minus is Hiromu i say, talk about a crappy excuse for a Red, never did anything to prove his worth as a leader or main character, he was just an average member of the team and the dull actor didnt help.

When it was just mostly Ace, it was pretty good. Lots of fast-paced mech action.

Then the robots just started to get clunkier and clunkier with -Oh and -King, and that's when even the mech aspect of the show seemed to lose focus.

And that's just what Go-Busters is: An example of lack of focus. It's just hard for you to focus on the show when the show can't do that by itself.
