What was the first Tokusatsu show/film?

Kyusaku said:
When you say tokusatsu you think some kind of hero. When Japan thinks tokusatsu, they think more of a scifi genre for TV/movies.

Does that mean Japan considers The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen as Tokusatsu?

When I say Tokusatsu, I mean a costumed hero with special powers or a special weapon. I've always classified Godzilla and other films like it as "Kaiju movies"

Godzilla is classified as Kaiju.

And Kaiju Eiga is a kind of Tokusatu. :anime:

Like Kyusaku said, in Japan Tokusatsu is the word used for a specific genre of film or TV, usually sci-fi or fantasy, that has special effects. Some Japanese Magazines like Tokusatsu Ace & NewType The Live cover not only the super hero programs like the Sentai & Kamen Rider, they also cover Godzilla & Kaiju movies, or special-effects movies with no super heroes or monsters at all (the recent film Lorelei, for example), and even non-Japanese special effects films & TV shows- the most recent NewType The Live had an article on the British series UFO, for example.
