What exactly is wrong with TV-Nihon subs?

I realise this is even further off topic, but has anybody tried Rosetta Stone or any of those other online Japanese courses? I'd love to try just a basic Japanese course or something, but I live in a rural area and there's no way I can attend a real life course. The last time I checked for a Japanese night school course, it was a three hour drive away from where I live and started half an hour after I leave work. :O_O:

I dig TV-Nihon, very much appreciate all the work they've done. Everyone has different taste, but having more shows subbed is nothing but a good thing.

editing some films to better fit the translator's idea of how they should have gone
I know that post is over a year old, but can anyone elaborate on that?

Anyways, is there some kind of wacky drama in the scene between the groups? I notice several of the other toku fansub groups have a list linking to many other toku groups on the side, sometimes a huge list of all of them, but without TV-Nihon listed. It doesn't come across well to me, if the list is actually there to help new fans... why wouldn't they be included?

I just finished watching the Tv-Nihon subs of Dekaranger and this is my opinion.

Speaking as a native Japanese speaker about 85% percent of the translations were right. But I'm not sure how I feel about the fact that 15% of the translations were done wrong. It wasn't a matter of word choice or connotation or nuance, they were just plain wrong. Now seeing that Dekaranger is a few years old, I'm not sure how good their current fansubs are. Or it might have just been the translator for Dekaranger.

But I assume that learning Japanese from incorrect fansubs could cause some very interesting conversations in Japanese.

I can't vouch there as I don't speak the language, but it does seem possible they've improved in the past eight years. Their DVD second version of the first episode is more accurate it seems, so they could do that for the whole show if they had time. Anyways, just a note, if we're comparing them to other groups, for all we know 85% could be on the high end. I'm assuming the improv jokes that aren't translations that say O-T does would count as wrong in your measuring?

I dig all the groups, but just curious, have you watched other groups and what are your thoughts there? Also, while a nitpick, how did you come up with 85%, just gut feeling I'm guessing not number crunching? Could it be 87.6%? :coolshades:

Those groups are usually connected by relationships it seems. It's not some conspiracy against Tv-N. And a lot of the time they're re-subbing shows they did anyway. Nihon is the one who doesn't like to acknowledge other groups.

Only problem I have with TVN is they're utter cuntmonkeys! Their forum moderation leaves something to be desired! I personally got banned for about 3 months not long after joining just for asking about he status of Kuuga. No warning just straight ban! Utter joke!!!!!!

in fairness, that is one of their rules? it might not be the greatest rule, but they're well within their rights to ban people for breaking their rules.

for a n00b to the forum (i had been a member for about 3 hours if that!) then surely a warning would have sufficed! theyre still cuntholes no matter what i had done
