What exactly is wrong with TV-Nihon subs?

I know that post is over a year old, but can anyone elaborate on that?
Takenoko, current head honcho of TVN, has taken both The Next and W Returns Eternal and made his own cuts of them that make the story fit his own vision of how it should have been told. It's not one of the things TVN gets a ton of complaints about, but I know the idea of editing the actual source material has rubbed some people the wrong way.

Well they did release the normal versions of both of those films too, which is why nobody complained, but I wouldn't be surprised if the download numbers were way lower for the takenoko vanity edits lol. At least that 'Kamen Rider Ixa' re-edit series kinda had a point for existing.

I now have a gripe with TV Nihon.
I'm trying to download Fourze, but they only give you one link option, and it takes 150 minutes to download.

If nothing else, I actually preferred the Takenoko cut of The Next, but I always found the horror subplot to be pointless.

True, but I've still heard people bitch about the Takenoko edits just for existing, so I stuck it on my list of recurring criticisms. And honestly, I loved the Eternal movie and have no idea why anyone would want to change it.

You can't expect everyone to know someone who speaks Japanese and English fluently, either.
Yeah, there's that too.

But really, that all sounds like an extreme situation, when you can't be sure of yourself or the translations presented that RAW is better than any fansub at all. As it has been said earlier in this topic, there is no perfect fansub group. None of them can get in contact with the Japanese studios, executives, and/or creators to make sure their translations are correct.

Well, as long as the fansub gets all the important points across, and viewers keep in mind that the subs can't be completely accurate (like you said, fansubbers can't go and ask the TV studio if there's any confusion), I'd say fansubs are better than watching raws.

I would rather have the fansub group that's 95% accurate thank you.
Heheh, so true.

They are connected though. A lot of time they're the same people under a different group name and sometimes share translators. Lynxara is an example of that.

Pretty fair point. I'm usually willing to work with whatever group arrangement makes sense for a given project. For me, it's just about working on the shows, and producing the sort of subs I'd personally most like to see. So I go wherever makes sense. Some other people like to keep all of their stuff under one group name, which is also fine and quite understandable. It just varies so much by person and group.
