What are the keys to make a good Toku series?

It's not just toku, getting your audience's belief is important in many genres from movies to tv shows.

That's what draws people into the show/movie itself. If audience cannot connect to the story. You fail... I mean the show's writer.

Other things you will want to take note is the theme and also the atmosphere.

Suspension of belief is different depending on intended audience. Transformers: Animated does not have the same requirements as CSI. So where should Kamen Rider lie? Think not about where you feel it should lie, but think about the intended audience, timeslot, and the other shows aired at the same time.

in my opinion, for a toku show, both story n fighting scenes r important.. it is a show, so it must have a story.. the story must be interesting at first place, n must involved the right characters.. each character must has an important role, whether as a serious character, hero character, villain character, side character or comical character, they all are important.. And since it is a 'toku' show, fighting scenes must also be emphasised.. interesting fighting scenes like great kung fu must be introduced, not 'kid fight'.. take for example, sentai shows like dairanger n gekiranger realy do have interesting fighting scene, with martial arts moves.. Some of the toku shows have really no sense of martial arts fighting, they r just like 'kid fight', using powerful beams, slash beam, fire spraying, huge weapon slashing n so on..

story n fighting scenes r important n must be collaborated well.. another thing is the duration of the show.. each episode of a toku show is only the most 25 minutes.. i think that is not enough.. that is why the story for each episodes seems rushing, n the fighting also seems rushing.. for example, the villain was powerful in one point, n easily weakens after one strike, the hero don hv much fight with the villain, just one or two slash then straight away the finisher.. that is because the time is not enough, 25 minutes only for an episode.. in my opinion, they should make an episode of toku 45 minutes at least.. that's my opinion.. how's your opinion?

a good storyline of course. good action scenes, a little comedy here and there, some good drama, and awesome suits. a good toku should be able to appeal all kinds of audiences.

I've been working on trying to put something together for awhile myself. It really makes you look at what works for you about these shows and what doesn't.

I feel it's important to realize you're doing a superhero fantasy action series first and foremost so any drama elements and/or comedic elements should be things that are there to lift that up so that the audience cares.

If you want to focus more on people being wacky or people talking at length about their feelings you might better off just doing a drama or a comedy than something with monsters and transforming heroes. BUT, at the same time though, it can't all just be neat armors, cool kicks, and bigass explosions either. You need those human elements to make it all matter.

In other words, an action story is not an excuse to have none of those things but I think you do have an obligation to get to the point and keep things moving to the main plot and action. Far too many shows get really distracted and sidetracked with a gratuitous focus on things that waste valuable story time. Even shows I've liked have been guilty of this to some greater or lesser degree. Pacing is important.

I think best toku series just like the best superhero stories in general realize what they are and don't apologize for it. They know they are fantasy for young and old and they embrace that proudly. But they seek to find a balance that gives the reader or the viewer a full experience while still also giving them the most bang for their buck.

Don't forget good actors that can pull off their characters well and pretty girls.

I could care less about real life crap. I get enough real life every day. I watch toku for the outlandishness of it.

i agree, however involving the police or fbi can't hurt in my books.

okay my advice:
if you want a toku series involving heroes in it don't just make him look like one but make him also a person that really care about people.

that's just my advice. if you want something serious go for it. don't make it too unrealistice but don't make it too realistic also try to find a balance between in it.
