"Welcome to Babylon" - Japan: Part III

In the opposite manner, writing about stuff often helps to organize your thoughts, make things either real / not real to you, and helps you come to grips with things. I used to think blogs were pretty stupid (afterall, who wants to read about your boring life, right), but then it became a thing for me to just vent and be myself on it, regardless of whoever read it. Of course, there's the whole thing with privacy (or pseudo privacy b/c it's on the frigging internet) but it did/does make you think someone gives a flying F about what you're going through. And you might be surprised, sometimes people you'd never guess could be going through the same shiet as you are. There is some merit in the saying "strength and safety in numbers."

Why not just use a forum? If you want a blog, go buy a notebook and make it your diary.

....Then again, while stuff like this (what Bueno is doing) is interesting, there is a point at which it gets to be too far, like when you make a post about having shampoo in your eyes. :P

And once again...we can always say "don't like it, don't click it," especially since now you know what the nature of those threads are.

Well, you usually can't tell whether you'll like it or not without clicking.

 Come one Sage, I know you're smarter than that... You're not going to make it THAT easy for me, are you?

I thought it was pretty obvious what my problem was, namely that I take my career pretty seriously and I found these posts have a "I'm in Japan making a mockery out of it" kind of undertone.

and the problem is that Kyo's problem isn't getting attention or something.
I think you got me wrong there. I'm not the kind of person who splatters his private life all over a message board. I've told just a few select people about what's going on. I don't want my problems getting attention here, I just wrote that the undertone of the writing isn't to my liking (and apparently I'm the only one thinking so but what the hell, I'm entitled to my opinion)

Allow me to make a somewhat farfetched comparison. Consider a very religious Christian person. When someone makes funny cartoons to mock Christianity most will laugh at it, but those who take their religion very (or maybe too) seriously won't find it funny and rather offensive. It's an extreme comparison but it's the basic feeling I get.

For me, immigrating to Japan isn't funny, nor is working there or living there. It's about hard work, trying your best to improve your skills and do your best to be a productive member of that society.

Now, Bueno and I have talked it over in PM and it seems we have totally opposite philosphies, which is probably why his writing style aggravated me. Anyway, I'll take your advice and stay out of this part of the forum from now on.

Probably. I didn't mean to insult you in any way, but just based on the way that the thread made you uncomfortable but not telling us why (which we now know is very personal), I just got the wrong impression. I think the bottom line is that Bueno can take things that have happened to him, good or bad, and just laugh and be glad they happened to him.

Through the PMs with kyo28, I feel that he's had quite a bit to deal with and it's completely understandable as to why he won't tell us. With that said, we were able to come to an understanding that the two of us have taken two totally different paths in coming to Japan and have different views of it. I'm sure that everyone does, but in the end, its all up to the individual's point of view. Of course I can take life seriously, but there's just times in Japan where you just gotta forget about all the stress and think about what can make ya smile. Some people do it and some people don't. The concept sounds tacky I know...but it certainly beats mopping all the time.

At times people take a look at me after work and say that I look like I'm tired of this country but that's not the truth. I'm just tired of work. I love enjoying myself here but work is just the shits sometimes. More on that in Part IV...

True that. So many points in my life have been just absolute **** and the only way to stay sane sometime is to just take it as a joke.

Anyways, I don't think I've said but: I like how you do this. Keep it up. Your yarns are entertaining if nothing else.
