I read the Rooster Fighter manga two years ago while I was supposed to be doing laundry. I remember thinking, “There’s no way this unhinged masterpiece ever gets animated.” I was wrong. So wrong. Not only is it getting animated—it looks like it got a budget bigger than some actual dramas. I feel like I’m living in an alternate timeline where chickens have abs and trauma, and somehow that’s totally fine. Seeing Keiji in full motion, clucking with rage, is something I never thought my eyeballs would witness. I used to send panels to my friends as a joke. Now they’re sending me the trailer like I didn’t already know. I feel like one of those guys who heard a band before they got famous, except my band is a jacked rooster on a revenge tour.
