-Ultraman Nexus-best of the dark ultras-

I think that NEXUS would be the best series to import to the US as a re-introduction of the Ultra Series for US audiences, because it could easily appeal to fans of such shows as STARGATE and BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

Though maybe with redone effects. It seemed to me that Nexus had lower than normal quality effects.

I'd love to see a coproduced series myself, with Japanese actors and stories but with effects done by an American studio. I think that would really help spread the franchise to modern day America.

Actually, all of the rays a beams that the space beasts fired were very realistic. The CGI looked like it was from a video game though!!! In other words, when the ultramen battles in the air, it looked quite fake.

The effects were about average, although the repetition of the Meta Field made the proceedings seem stagnant, IMHO.

That was already done, quite unsuccessfully, with ULTRAMAN GREAT and ULTRAMAN POWERED. But, here's the thing, once you take the Japanese out of the production, it ceases to be Japanese, and therefore ceases to be Ultraman. That's what makes the character unique, it's Japaneseness. Why bother otherwise?

But, now that Tsuburaya Productions is under the umbrella of the entertainment juggernaut, TYO, they have promised to pour more money into future Ultraman productions, and integrate more realistic CGI with traditional Japanese effects, to elevate the quality of the production. They intend to start this with a new Ultraman series for late 2008/early 2009.

My absolute favourite dark Ultra is Dark Mephisto plus his human host, Mizorogi :buttrock: although if Nexus had run for more than 37 episodes, i would have love Dark Faust and Mephisto Zwei as well but oh well ....

Can't wait ... :buttrock:

Dark Zagi. Finding out that Ishibori, who seemed to stay in the background for most of the series, suddenly pops out and says "HAY GAIZ I = UNKNOWN HAND, YOU = GON' DIE", was kinda cool in a way. Despite being extremely rushed I thought that his actions in the final episode were impressive.

I agree that this show should have been given another 13 episodes, as that final one (I got to finish Nexus tonight after doing marathons of episodes every night this week) was WAY too rushed, and I still didn't get a lot of what went on. But still, Dark Zagi was incredibly cool, considering how savage and wild he was compared to the other Dark Ones. (I'd put Mephisto second, though, due to the major role he played in the series).
