UltraMAN and UltraSEVEN

Ultraseven series question...

Alright I'm told this was and is still the #1 Ultraman series. Some even say it's to Ultraman like what KR Black was to Kamen Rider.

Does Ultraseven have a darker and more emotional tone in the series compared to other Ultra series?.

yeah and most people think Ultraseven's pretty boring too. i have to agree, it can get pretty boring at times, because of the serious tone of the entire show. many moral, political and social issues are reflected in the episodes.

most of the stories are centered around aliens trying to invade the planet, and throughout the series you wonder why Dan, an alien, is fighting his heart out for the humans (who aren't the true inhabitants of this planet, as revealed in one later episode). this storyline is tied up in the final episode of the 1999 OVA.

the last episode of Ultraseven is really the best finale to any Ultra series i've seen, though endings like Tiga and Gaia also stick right up there in my mind.

maybe you should try watching Ultraseven. i think the series was way ahead of its time.

I got Ultraseven, Ace, Leo, Dyna, Great, Powered, and Cosmos all on the way in the mail. I'm just trying to get through Taro as fast as possible this week.

I have really high hopes on Ultraseven. It's the dub version too, I hope the VA isn't too too bad haha.

I hope it's not the TNT version...not only did that take liberties with dialogue, but there were times where nearly entire fight scenes would get cut out.

Great, Powered, and Cosmos

Is it an official R1 of Great you have or a bootleg? :shakefist I know Great was dubbed in the US Under the original name of Ultraman: Towards the Future (I was a huge fan of it as a kid) but I don't know if it was released on DVD, I mean blockbuster.com and Amazon both have DVD's called Ultraman: Towards The Future but it has Jonias on the cover :shakefist.

Also about Cosmos, you are probably not going to like it since its very "gentle" and you might get confused because

[HIDE]The first episode everyone is like "He's Back! Ultraman Cosmos!" which might lead you to believe that its connected to the original Ultramen, but its not, First Contact is the prequel movie to Cosmos so it'll explain why everyone knows who he is in the first episode. Also I've heard First Contact was damn good.[/HIDE]

And enjoy your Kane Kosugi action

Thanks for that info. That First Contact info makes it for an even better vieweing. Thanks man!.

Great is dubbed that's all I can say at this point. I got an overwhelming haul of Ultra **** to go through.

NinjaBlack, Jiraya.... mwaa hahahahaha.... That's the one im waiting for.... I better see some dusgusting fight scenes. Not many can be a Sentai Senshi and Ultraman, ya know?. lol. ;)

The whole series of Great was released on VHS here in the US, one ep a tape. But they are out of print and almost impossible to find.

You are going to be disappointed if you're expecting great fight scenes in Powered. the stories are quite well done though. a fresher take on the original Ultraman storyline.

Well, count me as an odd guy for liking the nice clean white suit of Great and the mostly flashy no hands-on battle...

To me, the showa ultra and the heisei ultra are different entities in concept and stories and are related at all except they are ultra beings in execution of story. So, this whole red tribe or blue tribe thing are irrelevant, just enjoy the show... :P

I quit lurking, the hiding place is so damn hot these day...
