Because, at their very heart, belief in the Tooth Fairy, Santa and religion requires the same suspension of disbelief and faith in man-made evidence (a tooth fairy note, a letter from Santa, the Bible/Quran/what have you) claiming to be otherwise.

Since when does intelligence have any impact on "surprising us"? One could easily be completely out of their mind and make the same kind of leaps in discussion as SK does.
