U.C. 0081 : Mobile Suit Academy (Rpg thread)

Shikon Island Academy, the prestigious military academy that was dedicated soley to training potential mobile suit pilots should any Zeon forces suddenly feel aggressive again. A place where most emphasis was placed on learning through experience and as such very little time was spent in class rooms. Due to the islands unique composition consisting of varying terrain types and large size it was an ideal place for mobile suit pilots to train against each other in staged battles with the mobile suits that were assigned to each student. In these traning exercises the students would be divided into teams according to their mobile suit, and then both teams would be taken to different spots on the island with simple objectives: 1.Defeat mobile suits from the opposing team 2.Capture the opposing teams base camp and 3. Keep your own base camp from being taken by the enemy. In a sense it was a very small scale war that students waged on each other and aside from a few communications with the instructors the students were often on their own and each team was responsible for taking care of themselves until the training was done. The time it took varied from just a few days or even weeks depending on various factors. And to ensure some fairness the teams were all made up of a mix of students ranging from some of the best at the academy to complete newbies and each team had one leader appointed to them, and wether or not the leader wanted to give some power to their teammates was completely up to them. Training like this not only taught them to think on their feet when needed, but also tended to forge strong bonds of friendship and reliability between teammates, something that was also needed in real combat as knowing you had people to help you out and watch your back gave an added feeling of security in battle.

Today happened to be an exceptionally exciting day though, with mobile suit training fast approaching many students had one question on their mind: What mobile suit will I end up piloting?. It was something that tended to make people a little anxious since it was so exciting, for older students it was a chance to pilot a MS they hadnt piloted before and for others it was the first time they actually got to pilot one. Early on in the morning a list had been posted in the academy's cafeteria. The list was divided into two sections, one for Team 1, a.k.a. the GM team and Team 2 a.k.a.,the Zaku team. As people began crowding around the list, Kyle had managed to force his way through and get to the front of the horde. And this was what caught his eye:

Team 1(GM):
Kyle Raynor
Mari Kaido
Agisa Nanao
and a few other names of people he didnt really know.

He couldnt help but wonder why his name was bold and in red but he assumed he would figure it out later. Soon he found himself looking over at the Zaku list out of curiousity but mostly just took a look at the first three names:

Team 2(Zaku):
Ryo Higawa
Arai Sakagami
Maxwell Shreve
and of course a bunch of others he didnt really know to well.

Kyle of course found it cool that he was on the GM team, seeing as he remembered that model was a bit better at manuering and preferrid it's sleeker design to that of the Zaku. Besides it just seemed to carry some good luck with it since the Earth Federation had defeated Zeon.

((Allright folks, do whatever!!!))

Meanwhile, a young woman with pink hair entered the cafeteria, hoping to begin the day with the most important meal regarded by many -- breakfast. Upon entering, however, the young woman, named Mari Kaido, immediately noticed a crowd gathered on one side of the cafeteria. That's right.......they said that they would post team assignments this morning, Mari thought to herself, squeezing her way through the crowd in order to see which team she will be spending the rest of her time at the academy with. Managing to get to the front, she noticed two lists: the GM team and the Zaku team. Fortunately for her, she found her name on the GM team list, for she had looked up to the Earth Federation forces. However, a smile would grace her face upon learning that Kyle Raynor's name was bolded and in red, denoting the leadership position of the team.

That's right....leave it to the bigheads to pick someone of nobility for the leadership position.... Mari sighed, greatly annoyed by this fact. Since the time she first arrived, Mari had been an outcast, not fitting in with any clique in the Academy due to the fact that she did not have any sort of familial connection with the military. Having seen her name in the group she wanted to join, Mari let out one more sigh of disappointment as she headed to the buffet tables to get her daily fix of hashbrowns and sausages, which was pretty much one of the few highlights of the academy for her.

Arai pushed up his glasses, as he saw the list and then notice the name o the two leader. It wasn't a surprise that Ryo took leader position, nor the fact that his roommate Kyle would either. But Ryo in a Zaku and on his team that was a bit of a surprise. nevertheless Arai see the team as balanced, besides they have used him enough for a target that he is used to the Zaku and prefers it in a way, which is alittle sad seeing after graduation he may end up in a GM. With this he sighed thinking that it would probably be better if he just became a MS engineer like his father wanted him to be. Shaking his head slightly in disappointments he approached Kyle and stuck his hand out for a high five. His relationship with Kyle was pretty much like and hate. They had to share a room in the dorm, they don't really see eye to eye on everything. But both is willing to give credit when it is due.

"Great job...Congrats... looks like you beat Ryo to the leader of GM squad" Arai held his hand up for the high five, hoping that Kyle would recognize and not leave him hanging.

Meanwhile out of the lunch line came the usually clumsy and clueless Agisa. First thing she does when she walked out of the lunch line is spill water on the cashier. Bowing down to apologize she searches for a chair to sit in, usually she sits by herself, but today was different. She was going to take one of her few friend's advice and try to make more friends. And who better to start then a new teammate like Mari who was sitting by herself. Agisa approached Mari her lips was about to open to a greeting as a prankster tripped her and the bowl of cereal flew up landing on Mari's head.

"ahhh... I'm ..I'm so sorry... I'm so clumsy I..I... oh...ah.... Sorry SORRY!" Agisa said picking out the corn flakes of Mari's Pink hair. while everyone else in the Cafeteria laughed at the usual comedic pranks of this Joker and his bully of Agisa on a daily basis.

"Yeah, though it would be cooler if I hadnt most likely got the spot because of my last name." Kyle said after acknowledging him with a high five. "Either way though it's pretty cool though I just hope I do a good job at it. Plus knowing I beat Ryo to the spot adds a little satisfaction to the whole thing, though I gotta say I feel sorry for you since your under his command now." he said with a laugh as he ravenously attacked his breakfast.

It didnt take long to see the incident between Agisa and Mari, the other two names that were under his own on the list. Truthfully he didnt really give rat's ass about the fact that she was a bit of an outcast at Shikon but apparently it had made her pretty damn antisocial and probably somewhat cranky. And then there was Agisa who had become known as the "Goddess of Misfortune" due to her immense bad luck. "Looks like im gonna have a hell of a time with my team." he said with a worried tone.

Sitting all by herself in one corner of the cafeteria as usual, Mari was enjoying her breakfast of sausages, pancakes and hashbrowns in peace. However, that peace would not last long when she saw Agisa, her teammate in the GM squad, trip over something and spill an entire bowl of cornflakes over her head. I wonder if there's a limit on how many times a person screws up... Mari thought to herself, greatly annoyed by the incident as she felt Agisa pick the cornflakes off her long, pink hair. She was about to turn around and admonish Agisa for being incredibly clumsy.....until she noticed a loud, boisterous laughter coming from nearby, and instantly knew who instigated the accident. picking up the open carton of chocolate milk near her plate of sausages, Mari immediately stood up and approached the prankster, pouring chocolate milk all over him. Needless to say, the prankster was not very amused with this move, and confronted Mari with a boiling hot temper. "What the hell is your problem, pink?" the prankster yelled, milk continuing to drip from his hair. "My problem? People who pick on another person, that's what!" Mari shouted back, her annoyance changing to anger as she and the prankster stared each other down, waiting for each other to throw the first strike.

Meanwhile, Agisa stood by Mari's seat, coming close to tears as she observed her teammate and the prankster yell at each other. Please.....don't fight.... she sniffled, fearing the worst possible scenario.

On the other side of the cafeteria, Maxwell Shreve, aka "Acer" sat munching down on some pancakes and bacon. Holding up a paper given to him by his friend, he looked down at the team assignments, and saw his name on the Zaku list. "Damnit!" He yelled. "With the damn Zaku's I can't even fire a gun properly!!" He scoffed, throwing the paper aside and taking a huge bite of pancake.

Standing up, he looked at the two pranksters fighting, shook his head and left. Walking up to his dorm, he grabbed his special sniper rifle, placed playing cards a few miles out of the campus, and went to the roof just firing shots at them, hitting the cards every time.

"well that's not very nice" Arai replied to Kyle on the topic of Agisa, as one of her few friends he understood the poor girl. Arai stood up as he heard, the yelling from across the room. "Please excuse me" Arai excused himself and approached the yelling of the two other cadets.

"look.. it's Arai..."

"he's so nice... he's going to help Agisa again"

"I wish I had a boyfriend like him....sigh..."

On the way many people noticed him as especially the female population, due to his well mannered ways, somewhat good looks, and sometime the gentlemanly with bad boy attitude. He is quite popular among his female classmates. Arai grabbed a glass of water approaching the two hotheaded "clean your self of and change that uniform" He said and splashed water on the chocolate milk drenched cadet. The Cadet looked at him angrily but didn't try to do anything but calm down and walk away. Usually no one really mess with Arai due to the friend he has such as Kyle, espicially with the pranksters being in Kyle's new squad.

"I'll get you later Arai, I'll fry that damn Zaku on the field" The prankster said and left to clean off along with some of his friends. Arai stood there handing Agisa a Hankerchief. "Senpai don't cry ne?" Arai said gently to Agisa that nodded, and Bowed to Mari to apologize once agian. "Please excuse her Miss Mari she didn't mean it" Arai said apologizing as well. He stood there hoping that Mari would accept the apology.

The tension between Mari and the prankster continued to grow as people looked on....until the prankster, who was already soaked in chocolate milk, was drenched with water this time around. She then noticed Arai, the academy heartthrob, approach her and Agisa, handing the weeping girl a handkerchief to dry her tears with. She then felt her anger cool down a bit as she witnessed Arai bow down and apologize for Agisa's clumsiness, as well as the prankster's departure. "It's all right, Arai-kun. It's not her fault. Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be heading off somewhere else now," Mari replied respectfully, still somewhat irritated by the turn of events that caused her to lose her appetite, and immediately left the cafeteria along with the unfinished plate of sausages.

Meanwhile, the two girls that admired Arai looked on at Mari, somewhat frightened of her. "I hope I don't get to face her during the training exercises," the first girl told her friend, her voice indicated fear. The second girl merely nodded as both went back to the buffet line.

Ryo wandered into the cafeteria, the room becoming silent. Ryo's eyes wondered around the room, looking at each and every person in the room with spitefull eyes. Slowly, he walked toward the table that Kyle sat at, talking a seat on the opposite side so that he looked right at him.

"Kyle Raynor. Congrats on making the GM team. But... that doesn't mean you'll win."

"Just like how you being called #1 wont garuntee victory for ya." Kyle told him. "and it didnt garuntee that you wouldnt end up in a Zaku either apparently." he added with a yawn that was brought on by being half asleep. Everyone sort of viewed Ryo and Kyle as rivals due to their somewhat prestigious reputations. Though if anything it was a one sided rivalrysince Kyle never actually tried to outdo Ryo at stuff and tended to ignore his challenges at various things.

One thing was clear though, training was going to be pretty damn interesting this time around with those two leading the opposing teams, sand with their various teammates and most likely differing leadership philosophies it could possibly be seen as a small scale reenactment of the one year war itself. For now though it was only a matter of hours filled with anxious waiting as the mobile suits were being prepared for the cadets.
