What for? Their credits are encoded inside the video too.

How would you know if the file is a fansub or not before you download it if the filename doesn't contain the group initials? I will never understand why people would rename a fansub file to remove the group initials. In a way it's like an extra credit. From what I can tell from most fansub watchers these days, most don't pay attention to group names. I partly blame bittorrent. A fansub file without initials in the filename just doesn't look right at all to me.

Aye, If you go to download a File named. . . Say "Magiranger Episode One Subbed", How do you know what kind of Sub is it. Is it a Hong Konged Sub? Mishicorp? TV-Nihon? People deserve to know this kind of stuff before they watch the file. And giving them Credit is the Post with the link is nice, but what if a person stumbles across it later, and goes "I don't remember who subbed this." I like seeing the Fansub Group Intitals in my file name, it just seems more natural than just the Show name.

Darn. I renamed all of them guys. For example, the Magi episodes, i renamed them to "Mahou Sentai Magiranger Stage 48" or something like that. i have uploaded episodes with those file names too. but i always gave credit to tvnihon though.:shrug:

Removing the group name from the file is one thing. I was thinking more along the lines of removing excess junk like underscores and in some cases (I'm not referring specifically to TVN files) things like dates, bitrates and stuff like that.

Example, (新番組予告) 轟轟戦隊ボウケンジャー02 060122 (WMV9 QL93 856x480 24fps) [CRC_9286].avi -- Nice that it has all that info in the file name BUT it's just too much. Some upload sites do have character limits.

also the issue is that people are getting them from places not from them and going to them crying that it don't work....

that is what they are complaining about mainly... I don't rename my files because I'm lazy. LOL.. the most I will do is name something 01 vs 1 so they sort properly..

and Mika's point.... sometimes if you don't have the proper reader to see japanese fonts? it all comes out like "&&^%(-*&^)"

Can't make comment about fansubs since I don't download them, but when it comes to winny files, I rename all of them. To use the example Mikazuki posted:

Example, (新番組予告) 轟轟戦隊ボウケンジャー02 060122 (WMV9 QL93 856x480 24fps) [CRC_9286].avi

I renamed this file to:
[特撮] 轟轟戦隊ボウケンジャー (新番組予告) 02 060122.avi
And for other files:
[特撮] 轟轟戦隊ボウケンジャー 第01話 「TITLE HERE」.avi

I do this for the simple reason that it's easier for me to keep track of all my files. There's a logic in my file naming system:
[PROGRAM TYPE] SERIES NAME 第TITLE NUMEBER話 「EPISODE TITLE」.avi

I don't see any problem with this since I can still share the files on Winny just the same (due to the CRC staying the same). I just do it for my own convenience.


Just one side note, it is true that if a file does not contain enough information, it can lead to misconceptions. It happened once to me on western P2P networks where I downloaded a file called Magiranger 05.avi and it turned out to be a sub instead of a raw.:redface2:
