Top 5 favorite toy lines growing up.

When we were kids there was always that batches of toys we looked forward too when we were kids, either waiting for Christmas or going down the toy aisle just to see if anything new came out. I know I had my favorites, the ones I usually ended up playing with the most, so just for fun I thought I make a thread about it.

[Toku Prime]

The ones everyone I knew used to play with were Transformers (and other transforming toys, all the way to the McDonalds Changeables and even Rock Lords), Real Ghostbusters, TNMT, Star Wars and Power Rangers (mainly the figures as few families could afford the expensive Megazord toys).

But I'd like to give a shout out to some that I very rarely saw but loved:

• Mighty Max - sadly discontinued because the tiny pieces were a massive choking hazard
• Thunderbirds die-cast vehicles
• Were Bears - I sadly never encountered any of the spin-off 'Terror Teds'
• Z-Bots
• Zoids 2 - they seemed to be much more common than the original Zoids for some reason

No particular order:

1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - I was all about some turtles, son.

2) LEGO - I'm a LEGO fiend. I loved the pirates and castle themes when I was a kid.

3) Masters of the Universe - I can remember the day I got the "Spydor" toy for Skeletor. Badass.

4) Mighty Max - Toku Prime is right...those things had some TINY pieces. Each one was like a self-contained world and adventure though. I loved 'em.

5) It was difficult to come up with another one honestly. My tastes varied wildly and I got a bit of everything. I'm going to be an odd bird and say Battle Trolls. They were fucking awesome. Nobody can tell me otherwise.

I had a VHS tape with three episodes of the Mighty Max cartoon on it and it was AWSOME! Not bad for a cynical attempt to make Polly Pockets for boys :sweat:

I remember when I was very small I received a present of a massive box of pirate themed lego. The front of the box looked amazing; It showed a desert island with some palm trees and a little wooden fort, a massive pirate galleon off the shore, dozens of pirates, monkeys and parrots, and a pirate captain in a rowboat trying to make it to land with a treasure chest overflowing with plastic coins while a shark chased him. Of course, when I opened the box barely any of that was actually in it. It had the captain but he was the only lego person so he had no crew. Not that he needed them anyway because there was no big ship, no fort, basically none of the cool stuff. It only needed a big box because it came with a large flat base with an island painted on it. I was so disappointed I never had any enthusiasm for lego (or any other kind of 'building toys') ever again. Lying box art shatters tiny dreams :shakefist

My only commercial toy growing up was a sort of Lego knock-off (blocks were smaller, and it didn't have those stylized pieces), so I really can't add much. But what I liked about it is that you can let your imagination run wild. All these new Lego sets where you have a design to build beforehand befuddles me.

We probably were influenced more by subscriptions to Jane's Defence Weekly and Popular Mechanics than to Transformers. But I do remember visiting a cousin's home and being quite impressed with their Voltron Lions set.
