It's kinda weird. There's SO MANY moments in this special where I thought "I wish they hadn't just done that" (for example the pointless mecha fight or the totally out of nowhere Doggie love confession) and yet I really liked this special anyway. I guess it's down to just how strong the show was.

Especially Umeko. What a great audience surrogate she was during this special. I thought she was the heart of this one. Kinda creepy seeing mature her in a bath tub, though. Her bathtub scene had a sexual context I never got from the show itself.

I always thought Umeko's bath scenes in the show were intended to be a bit of mild fanservice for any dads or older brothers watching, just neutered enough that nobody was going to scream "think of the children" at them. Funnily enough I didn't think it was like that this time. Though the reason I enjoy that scene is for when she suggests changing her name to Sen's surname, because while it's funny to see him get thrown for a loop by his girlfriend suddenly implying she'd like to marry him, he's smart enough to see what's really going on with her and it makes it a great character moment for both of them.

I loved the not!proposal, too.

On another note, I also loved Ban and Houji's dynamics. They didn't have to do the good 'ol bickering. Ban knowing what Houji's been doing just comes naturally to him even though they're polar opposites.

Since it's been almost 10 years since I watched Dekaranger myself, I also felt a heavy rush of nostalgia while watching this. Some parts of the story were a bit questionable (Jasmine being able to teleport now because of what?), but it was so much fun seeing the entire gang back together without missing a beat.

Jasmine did explain that her baby inherited Hikaru's teleporting powers, besides her mind reading ability. she said somewhere along the lines that she used the baby to mind read Ban's secret plan, as well as the ability to teleport them all over the place.

Aww, I thought it was sweet. Doggie and Swan clearly have always had a thing for each other and, considering everyone was there and he had just been in a coma for two years, it seemed like appropriate timing. Since this is most definitely be the final time all 8 actors will reprise their roles at the same time, I guess they figured that Doggie and Swan's relationship needed some sort of closure after all these years.

This is why I love Naruhisa Arakawa so much. In another writer's hands like Riku Sanjo or Toshiki Inoue, this would have been played up as nothing more than a bona fide proposal. But Arakawa gets that moments like these are room for even deeper character growth, rather than just slapping a ring on the finger which then magically solves everything.

The "It's magic!" explanation works, but it's still a Deus Ex Machina. It kinda threw me off for a bit, but any excuse to get Jasmine back in action works.

I love this special. Yeah, there were a few plot holes, buts it's been a while since I watched Dekaranger, but it's been a while since I watched the show and I'm sure it had a few of those weaknesses. The movie was still pure awesome. I loved how the mystery played out and actually kept you guessing until the end.
Of course, it's the characters that made the movie and it was fun seeing them again. I also enjoyed that they didn't actively ignore the team up movies and Gokaiger and krafted a story that could work either way. I wish the mecha scene was a more integral part of the movie, but I appreciate them including one (it's not Gorenger or JAKQ, there ought to be a mecha fight )
Short & sweet, it was worth the 45 minutes and I recommend it to any Dekaranger fan. Those who hate Dekaranger... well, guess.

Wow, so Jasmine married the little boy she met during the series. For some reason, that was the main thing I remember from this movie. Lol. That's some Anakin/Padme stuff where the female's age is sorta more significant than the male. Interesting. I enjoyed this movie and was glad to see everyone back. It's like they never miss a beat as when I was watching it, I already felt the vibe from the show. Loved the fact that Asumu's name is the same as his name from Hibiki. And darn the stock mecha footage looked so grainy.
