Tokusatsu VS Anime

Black Ranger RX

I don't have low self esteem.
Just though I'd create this Poll!! B)

So, if you had 1 choice, which out of the 2 forms of Japanese entertainment do you like the most!! Anime or Tokusatsu?

Me? As much as I love Anime, I put my vote on Tokusatsu, because over the few recent weeks I've been finding I've been watching more Tokusatsu than I have of Anime. I dunno why, partly it could be because I grew up with the Power Rangers.

I think that the last anime that I watched was the Filipino dubbed version of Yu Yu Hakusho (Ghostfighter). I used to watch alot of Anime when I was a kid such as Chodenji Machine Voltes V, Tosho Daimos, Combattler V, DBZ, Ranma and such but for some reason, the new ones do not interest me. :redface2:

I got back into tokusatsu again about 3 years ago by watching an episode of Denji Sentai Megaranger. After that, I tried remembering all of the tokusatsu series that I have watched before (Bioman, Maskman, Shaider, Jiban, etc.) and realized that I have never seen the ending of the series so thats why I continued watching it. I guess toku is closer to my "kokoro".

Overall, I'd have to say anime. I'm a super robot lover first and foremost. But with the drought of really mind-numbingly amazing super robots these days, I'd have to say that in recent years, I'd pick Tokusatsu.

I like both for various reasons, but overall I've always watched more Tokusatsu. Maybe because everyone else around here watches anime.

Toku gets my vote. Anime is great but I derive more enjoyment from my Japanese Live Action Special Effects series.

Definately anime.

More variety and creativity that can be done in it now. Where Tokusatsu is heavily limited by the physics of reality and budgets.

I can get my super henshin and mech action on in anime and with better and more fantastic fights as well as stories about falling in love in school, going to college, street racing, galactic war, ninjas and samurai.

Anime's got the edge by a long shot because it doesn't have limits. While shows like Casshern and Cutey Honey are starting to blur those lines I still don't get the massive variety that you can get in anime, but not in Tokusatsu.

Anime, I'm a visual graphics whore, but seeing beautiful animation with a killler story (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, Samurai Champloo, Macross, G Gundam, Gundam Wing) totally gets me satisfied, and Keith makes a true point about Toku, it's great but the limits hold it back.

It's still always nice to see how far they can push it, Disney seems to be doing just fine with that. (A.K.A. Shadow Ranger's Sliding-Dash-N-Slash)

Tokusatsu OWNS Anime.

Live Action will always be more awe inspiring then some cartoons running around.

Says the fanboy with nothing to back it up.

The ONLY thing that Tokusatsu MIGHT have over Anime is that it's actual humans risking their real bodies trying to pull off stunts. And that the props take actual hands on work to create. Otherwise Anime can do every fight

Otherwise, Toku's got jack that Anime can't do and do better visually.

If you think Anime's just cartoons running around you haven't watched any good anime. And watched it without prejudice.

I mean, this place wouldn't exist if I didn't love me some Toku. But I've NEVER seen anything in Tokusatsu that could match the epic majesty of Record of Lodoss War, Macross Plus, Gundam SEED, Cowboy Bebop or BERSERK.

Toku's extra for me.

It's that underground kickass thing that nobody else appreciates and it feels all the more personal to me that I get to see the brilliance and fun within it, while it slips past the radar of everyone else. Power Rangers too. These are my own personal treasures that nobody else acknowledges or knows about.

But when compared against anime and you're making me choose one.... ****, DekaRanger's had the greatest big bot fights of seen in Tokusatsu, but I'll be **** damned it it matches GaoGaiGar in its detail and intensity.

Anime's just got more overall, and that's hard to beat.
