Tokusatsu TV Ratings Thread

Tokusatsu's TV ratings are declining.
True, it seems that it's mostly due to consumers relying less on television as a primary source of entertainment.

I think a better measure of the success of the show would be comparing their performance/ratings to other shows airing in the same timeslot.

Not quite, Anime and J-Dramas are what're dominating ratings! Especially Gundam series, Toku is just losing it's appeal. But sometimes all it takes is a high-concept series (like back in '96 with Tiga) to rejuvinate interest in the genre all together. Everyone reaps the benefits.

What I can't figure out is why toku fans around the net care so damn much about toku ratings in Japan. Toku isn't going anywhere. I mean Den-O didn't have SUPER FABTABULOUS ratings and yet it has another moving coming out, and people want more of it. Sentai hasn't had Huge ratings in a while but it doesn't matter because the kids still watch it and they buy the toys.

most of the time some shows can be axed or change production crew when ratings is not up to standard.. this happened before in the past.. thus sometimes the ratings can be a big concern..

People just want the things they like to do well, and many fans are under the impression that anything below awesome ratings is unacceptable and/or dangerous to the franchise's longevity.

The ratings for Gundam 00 were around the same for Boukenger. In fact I think Boukenger did even better than 00 with an average of 6.7% versus 00's average of 4.8%.

In the "hierarchy of ratings" as I like to call it, it's usually J-Drama, tokusatsu and then anime. Not counting the long running stuff like Sazae-san, One Piece and Pokemon, a 5% or so is about average for an anime.

So with the advent of the news of the Den-O spin-off at the end of the Kiva episodes, it's not tough to assume that Kiva isn't doing so well. Are there ratings out there for the first handful of episodes? I'd love to see how it compares.
