Toku Special: PreCure Edition.

watching something like 300 episodes

Be a man, PreCure only has like, 525 episodes and 17 movies at the time of this writing.

But if you still find that a bit too daunting, maybe watching some of the movies will soften the blow.

I have barely mentioned them but there are some very good movies that you could watch; there is the seconds Max Heart Movie which i have taken the liberty of branding as "The Die Hard of Magical Girls"; there is also the first YPC5 movie which i mentioned briefly and it is pretty good provided that you don´t mind wheeping like a man; the HeartCatch movie is pretty damn good (it has even made its rounds in a few anime conventions/screenings) and if you are interested in Smile then the Movie is a pretty good option since its combination of all the best things in the series.

Oh, and in the Fresh Movie Cure Peach basically fights Bruce Lee. And wins.

Thinking about it, there´s also the crossover movies which are always fun, and of those i usually recommend the first PreCure All-Stars DX movie; it has every character up until that point, the plot is simple but does what it needs to do (i.e. gather all the Cures for a single massive battle) and it has a stupid ammount of action.

Be a man, watch ~250 hours of magical girl shows LMAO.

You mean Shiny Luminous had to walk around with glass in her feet before killing Alan Rickman? :O_O:

Which means she's also tougher than Chuck Norris

Well, it wasn´t so much glass as it was shards of ice, instead of walking barefoot it was carrying a dying Phoenix and it wasn´t so much Alan Rickman as much as it was Noboyuki Hirayama.

Now that that has been cleared up, onto the real business.

As per tradition, Toku Special Part 6 is now up!!

This time i cover the two latest seasons, DokiDoki PreCure and the currently airing HappinessCharge PreCure. Why yes, HappinessCharge is a single word, ask Toei if you don´t believe me.

But anyways, since those are the latest seasons that also means that this is the final installment of Toku Special... unless i continue in the future but it will be a while before that happens, so for now go read them and enjoy yourselves while i go find a more productive way of using my time.

Feel free to comment here, on LiveJournal or even on Tumblr once i hijack an account and publish them there, something that shouldn´t take more than a day :P.

lol funnily enough after reading about all those instances of "the pose" that you mentioned, I watched episode ten of Sailor Moon Crystal today and when Usagi enters the battle at the end the camera pans over to her and, low and behold, she's also doing "the pose". :anime:

I enjoyed reading these articles. I've put your main livejournal page in my shortcuts so that I can look at some of your character essays once I watch the relevant precure series. I hope you'll do a follow-up on Happyness Charge once it's finished and let us know if it was indeed a tribute to Stronger's final arc

I'm not sure what the general response to Happiness Charge has been, it would be interesting to hear more opinions on it. Almost every discussion seems to revolve around the issue of the romance plots, even in Japan.

Personally, I wouldn't have minded the Seiji/Blue stuff so much if it weren't for the fact every one of the characters had to be involved in the romance stuff somehow (that Iona episode was especially bad :redface2:). It dominated too much of the show and that time could have been spent focusing on more interesting aspects... Like the international Precure or even just the characters having to overcome their own personal problems, such as Hime's shyness or Megumi's apparant self esteem issues (which was probably just bad writing, but okay).

I actually don´t know how i will do that; generally i do an analisys after each season wraps up (and the movie comes out), but in those cases i usually talk strictly about the show itself and don´t really talk about toku for more than a paragraph or two (it´s a habit). So who knows, maybe i will update part 6 at some point or address it in part 7 if i ever do it.

For the record, Ep 39 contained a surprising number of references to Kamen Rider (the original series), the most prominent being Iona/Cure Fortune (the one voiced by Haruka Tomato Tomatsu/Candelira´s VA) transforming using Ichigo´s pose.

From what I´ve heard, children generally enjoy HaCha while the adult fanbase is dissenchanted with it.

Personally i don´t mind the romantic sub-plots too much since the show is doing something rather clever with it; there is a lot of talk about what love is, but when you get down to it there has been very little romance in the show. I mean, the whole Megumi/Seiji/Blue things boils down to Seiji caring for Megumi as if she were his sister and worrying about her getting hurt if she were to fall in love, Blue being oblivious because he is a God and Megumi noy really understanding her feelings which to be fair is a pretty normal reaction to have towards Shouma Yamamoto.

The only real instance of romance was the episode where Iona gets asked on a date, and even that ended up with the guy being "sorry for pushing my feelings into you, i will give you some space", beyond that most of the romance especulation has come from YuuYuu shipping everyone, and let us remember that this is the girl whose first love was a dog and her current relationship status is "food".

Seriously, bless that girl.

Is Blue really oblivious though?

Well, it is actually more like a combination of obliviousness and self denial, mostly because...

[HIDE]...after breakin Mirage´s heart and causing her to become evil...[/HIDE]

...Blue decided to keep an emotional distance, so while he might be aware of the effect he has on Megumi, he subconciously chooses not to see it after a centuries of blaming himself for the tragedy of the Phantom Empire.

Still, i am of the belief that the show will not take the full on romance route and at the end Cure Lovely will help Blue fix things with you-know-who, then Blue will forfeit his gohood to pursue his happiness and Lovely will become the new Goddes who protects the earth.

Hey, i wouldn´t put that past Toei.
