Toku ever too depressing/dark for you?

I don't really like when the series goes all out dark, by the end you feel sort of numb when the tragedies continue to happen the main character. Look at 555 for example, near the end when Yuka died I shrugged off because a lot of people had already died in that one. Yet, I got bit teary eye during the final episodes of Den-O when they had to leave Kintaros behind.

i always think that ryuuki is one of the darkest shows made for kids... with its theme of killing each other for the personal reasons... but i that's one of the reason that its a great series... it dark but not that depressing/tragic when talking about in this topic...

the most tragic character would probably go to yuka of 555... i always think she deserved to be happy with keitaro after all that happened to her... poor girl

gills of agito on the other-hand is tragic but its feels kinda heroic for him to stand up after all of those misfortunes that happened to him... which gives a positive vibe to his character despite being kinda tragic...

I love dark and depressing Toku, but not all the time. I can take some Ultraman Nexus or Ultraseven X every now and then, but I guess I need to balance them off with some of the lighter shows.

Seven-X has a very dystopian feel to it, which makes it quite depressing. I actually didn't mind it being dark, because they had to potray an imperfect world, where the monster attacks were not the only issue that people had. It always seemed like the people living there were in a state of mass-depression.
I don't know if you have seen it, but the original Ultraseven was actually much "darker" at times.

I have the same feeling with Shi15buya. This show tops even Faiz and Nexus, but it didn't really bother me, because the whole idea of the show was to present this horrible world that the characters lived in, which seemed like one big ghetto, where everyone had a hard time making a living

Sadly I've only seen the original Seven episodes, up to what has been fansubbed.

Though from what I've heard, I will agree- the original IS darker. It's just, it has a more wide scale, super darkness to it, while Seven X brought its darkness down to the human level, making it a bit more obvious but not as bad.

You can tell its not as bad, because once UltraSeven really wakes up in X, he punches Big Brother in the face and saves the freaking world.

Meanwhile, in the original....a lot of species died.

Hmmm... I think "dark" doesn't necessarily need to be "evil", I mean the thread was about "depressing/dark", so in that sense, Ultraseven X did pass since it's not like your usual Fuuto-ish setting.

Your right on the money for that post.

And to be honest i never finished Ultraseven X, not that it was dark i never finished it and the series lasted like 12 or 13 episodes, i feel so ashamed.
