Things that killled it for you in a tokusatsu

If Kiva was talking, he would be saying "Kids, this is how it should be done"

Kamen Rider Kiva? More like Kamen Rider Jerkoff

I don't Hibiki was that bad of a show. The first half of the show was pretty interesting and had good character-driven plots. The second half, on the other hand, needed to stick with the same formula. After Hibiki got too powerful and they rewrote Zanki's story, I started to lose interest.

I always thought Zanki's story was one of the stronger points of the second half, everything culminating with Zanki finally being able to let Todoroki be his own man was an amazing story.

Anywho, stuff that killed it for me...

Go-Onger - I don't mind the comedy, it's what kept me interested in the first 10 episodes or so, it's the fact that the story never goes anywhere that made me drop the show. The characters never change, the only villain who provided some serious conflict was turned into a laughing stock and the G3 episode was pretty horrible, I don't think I've ever seen such a boring show. People say that Toei isn't enthusiastic with Kamen Rider these days, but that's at least providing some gripping drama, Go-Onger seems like it's just there to keep Sentai going more than Kiva to Kamen Rider.

Boukenger - The episodic nature of the series wasn't too bad, even though I much prefer following long arcs throughout the year, it's just the characters that I didn't like. I think this and Kabuto are some of the most overrated series out there, Boukenger's problem is similar to Go-Onger, but at least in Go-Onger I liked more than one character. Eiji was completely wasted here.

Kabuto - Now this series is such a waste, it could have been so great, it had a pretty good cast and the basic story of the main character hating humanity and feeling like he was above them all was great, but the execution was lackluster and left us with a show that made little to no sense and would just totally veer off into random frivolous plots that completely clashed with the dramatic mood the series tried to portray at first. The ending was so completely half-assed as well, I would believe that Negishi was there from the start if we had some hinting at it, but we got nothing, Kusakabe's character was wasted and while I liked the ending Kageyama and Yaguruma were given, their characters were pointless. I don't want to call it a trend, but since Den-O did it as well, it seems like the recent Kamen Rider series just pop out an ending that really makes no sense because they're coming to the end and are realizing that they've got no direction. I really hope Kiva can avoid falling into that trapping since it's the first series that has had a really strong story for most of its run since Hibiki.

Mebius - The fun episodic thing can only last so long before it gets really stale and boring. I loved Mebius in the first 20 episodes or so, but after that it became one stand alone story after another. Aside from the revelation of where Mirai acquired his human face from and Leo appearing to train Mebius and GUYS finding out who Mirai really is, episodes 21 through 40 or so were really boring, though the Isana episode has a special place with me, I really like seeing the expansive world that the organization built up. The final ten episodes were pretty good, but the first half of those just felt like they were fanwank for anyone wanting to see the older Ultras, once they got that out of the way, then it became really great again. The final few episodes were dramatic and had some amazing cinematography, I loved that nightmare scene Mirai had in episode...47, I think, it was so eerie and something that I totally didn't expect. Those final few episodes, and especially the final episode and its battle were the perfect example of how to do dark and dramatic in this medium without going over the top. But yeah, the bad really outweighs the good for me in this series.

Mebius was never intended to be dark. If that was what you were longer for, then of course you would not like it.
Of course I know it wasn't intended to be dark, but when it went dark, it did it really well, better than the next "dark" series that followed in the franchise. It knew how to play certain scenes up to a creepy extent that really messed with the characters and it didn't seem melodramatic.

Like I said, I was bored because after a while it became so evident that there was no real story and while I liked the main cast of characters, their adventures can only be entertaining for so long before I begin yearning for something more. The series was freaking great when it wanted to be, but I just didn't think that happened too often.
