Things I hate About Heisei Riders

What is it about Columbia that would make them stick to tokusatsu-centric series?

I don't know the official answer to that one. Maybe they just want to keep to tradition, maybe they'd rather not distance themselves from the show. I don't know, but I don't think it's a coincidence that the two Heisei Riders under Columbia had "Kamen Rider" in the lyrics and a traditional, appropriate sound (which matched the shows), and all that was gone immediately following the jump to Avex.

As for V3's opening, I think the mistake was in letting Hiroshi Miyauchi sing it. He puts nothing into it! The alternate versions by Ichiro Mizuki and Masato Shimon are better... The bigger offense is the way Miyauchi murdered the seriously cool Zubat OP when he covered it. Music died a little that day.

...nah. Not even that. I actually really detest that song, more than any other old-school tokusatsu song for some reason. Though, I do have an odd liking for the Kamen Rider X music, Jin Keisuke no Uta is pretty sexy, and I've got an unhealthy love for Bokura no Riderman.

May I ask why you dislike toku image songs so much? I can tolerate the J-Pop OPs but I prefer oldschool single anison songs.

Shogus! I haven't seen you in AGES!

Ah, that would make sense then, kinda, that or it's just horribly coincidental. I think it would be interesting if Sentai tried that out for a year or so, maybe by even taking the Ryuki approach and grabbing a bunch of anisong people for the job, but I don't think that's something I could ever see sticking.

Yeah, I hear people complain about how badly certain cast members in modern tokusatsu can sing, but...those songs are just bad and make me want to skip straight through them.

I...can't actually pin it down. I dunno, maybe it's hearing a song randomly yell out a series name followed by the name of any attacks or weapons, but I just get really thrown out of it when I listen to those songs, even if those things do blend with the lyrics. Heck, I can just barely tolerate the random "Gan Gan"s in the Gekiranger OP since I just link them to a singer using "lalala" in an English song. Though I can tolerate most of those songs, it's just the bad Enrish that really kills any song for me.

But that's really only the '70s songs. And Ishinomori wrote most of the lyrics of those songs, so I think he just wanted them to seem "actiony," even comic book-ish.

D:

Man, am I the only one who thinks the V3 opening is one of the greatest things ever? Possibly since sliced bread?! D8

No way, I love that one! I will agree with Shougo though, the alternate versions are probably better. I don't think Miyauchi's that bad, but he's no Fujioka (who has actually done some pretty damn good non-Rider songs. His CDs are great fun.)
