The Toku Unpopular Opinion Thread

I'll admit Tiga felt slow, but I had a bigger issue with how seriously it treated itself compared to other previous entries, the mood felt like "nobody make any jokes or have fun ever, remain up tight or else!" I got a similar feeling from the Shinsei Goji movies sans Final Wars, the pre-Decade Rider series, and most of Syfy channel's earlier movies. Nexus did this too, but they got it right.

1. So silly things the villains have make them not good villains? I guess you haven't watched much toku from the past.

2. Cool. I couldn't stand it but cool.

3. There is a ton of "soul" in kyoryu. If I were to guess you loved Busters and thought it was a unique take on sentai? even if I am wrong there, ALL sentai is about a big cash grab. It's what they do with it while they are trying to grab cash.

3. The thing is, if you read some of my other posts, I wasn't a big fan of Go-Busters either. I thought it tried too hard, the characters were completely one-dimensional, and the premise was poorly fleshed out. But at least Toei wasn't desperate when they made that show. With Kyoryuger, I have not seen Toei be this desperate to sell as many toys as possible as soon as possible since, well, Gaoranger.

1. Dr. Maki's overreactions were way, WAY, WAYYYYY overkill. It's okay for villains to have a silly quirk but when that quirk instantly ruined any scene of drama that preceded them, then there's a major problem.

But Maki is....special. He has his dramatic moments, but his breakdowns are a driving force of his character. He may not be as sinister and intimidating as say...Terror Dopant or Daguva. But you can't really say that "ruining the drama" didn't contribute to him as a villain.

I really can't see how anyone would think Tiga was SERIOUS BUSINESS all the time. Especially when there's stuff like the Halloween episode.

I liked Go-Busters, and I really like Kyoryuger...

Because people love to compare them negatively and either say that Kyoryuger is more interesting or better written or more suitable for the target audience than Go-Busters; or that Kyoryuger is "desperate" and "playing it safe" while Go-Busters was this wonderful, creative, innovative show - in particular, complaining about Kyoryu's toy push while praising Go-Busters for its lack of "gimmick" (and ignoring the question of why the toyline underperformed.) It's like the ridiculous rivalry between Go-Busters and Gokaiger fans, or Shinkenger and Go-onger fans. People do this all the time

You see, but Dr. Maki could have been an AMAZING villain and he legitimately was at several parts in the last few episodes of OOO. He's a psychopath who killed his older sister, completely abandoned his humanity, and was obsessed with death. I could have lived with him having the baby doll because of his psychological scars, but his overreactions whenever the baby doll was even touched were played up strictly for laughs and that, to me, instantly ruined any intimidation the character may have had going for him beforehand.

It's like Yasuko Kobayashi really wanted to have a dark, grim and disturbing character serve as the show's main villain but she kept having to hold herself back because someone higher up (Takebe) was all like "oooh, don't do that. We don't wanna scare the little kiddies". The show tried to have Dr. Maki both ways and those comedic scenes absolutely NEVER failed to ruin the mood.

Because it's one of the only arguments people who support Kyoryuger seem to have.
