Just...I know, I should be respectful...actually, **** that. I just watched a true Batman movie and a classic superhero film with definitive performances by great actors...no way am I not taking this fracking insult lightly

I wouldn't say the performances in Speed Racer were better no, but overall as a movie... Speed gave me things I haven't seen before in explosive ways. Dark Knight was solid as **** and had some great performances out of the Joker and Dent (Bruce... not so much... no bad, but not remarkable.) But nothing I haven't seen before visually or in storytelling.

UNDER Speed Racer? I love Speed Racer, but it's absolutely NO "The Dark Knight", this movie embarrased a lot of what Marvel have produced over the years. Spider-Man looks more outdated now because of this movie, the closest Marvel have to competition is The Incredible Hulk, and even that and Iron Man was inspired greatly by what Nolan accomplished with Batman Begins, this will be the movie that forces Marvel to wake up and push harder in the direction comic films are goin right now...and none of it will EVER, EVER, by Ghost Riding Christ, EVER..be UNDER Speed Racer.

I don't think so. Not even close. Batman was great and solid, but I felt it sacrificed a lot of what makes it "superhero" to make sure no one had to use their imaginations at all and feel embarassed. It was absolutely Batman in the real world and that is an accomplisment. It's an incredible incarnation of Batman, but I feel that it sacrifices its DC Universal home too much to make sure it looked real.

Spider-Man and Iron Man embraced their superhero worlds and in the case of the latter provided the spring board to a bigger universe eventually.

Nolan's Batman will never grow further into the Batman mythos we all love. It'd be too embarassing and really take away from the realistic world created. I feel like they did too good a job at making it real and in the end made it so we could never get a proper Robin that wasn't embarassing. Never get a Superman/Batman team-up that fans have always wanted.

In Speed Racer, every fight and bit of choreography was a metaphor for some character development that served the overall narrative. Batman... "sit back and watch him beat ****." Which wasn't bad and if we're going to be realistic about it, I really liked how minimal his movements were. No flare, no wasted energy or motion. Great style and what I feel Batman would use. And him taking out the semi with the Batcycle... I cheered, but it was just an action sequence. Not a metaphor for growth or struggle. Not 'til the end where Bats showed once again he couldn't kill... but that was at the end.

Great action, but they don't stack up to seeing Speed race the memory of this brother or seeing Speed use all of the struggle and love he experienced throughout his journey to come out on top in the final race.

Batman can easily be fucked up. Burton fucked it over with Batman Returns (no plot and too dark), and Schumacher clubbed it with an iron. Hardly anybody likes "The Batman"...so where are you getting this **** from? Sorry man, but you're full of it.

I HIGHLY disagree with Batman Returns being fucked up. And have ALWAYS hated when people say, "it had no plot." What does that mean!?!?!? The only time I've seen this is in a Kids in the Hall sketch where a guy in a tutu and snorkel mask walked up to a guy in a suit and started slapping him saying "Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" and that was pretty much it. They did a story with no beginning, end or motivation for anyone.

Burtons first two I felt where great. I'd have to give it more thought to see if I thought they were better than Nolan's. Possilby equal and different.

As for it being easy to **** up? Schumacher with out of his fucking way to screw it up. It takes concentrated effort to think putting nipples on the Batcostume and then to just light every-fucking-thing up with ugly as hell neon and chrome. Had they dialed it back and maybe done a real Batman story it wouldn't have tanked so hard. But the **** up they did was not easy. This is what happens when you put a property into the hands of someone who doesn't get it and the backlash of the people who don't care that they don't get it.

Speed Racer and Iron Man are fun larks, they don't make you THINK, they don't make you BELEIVE in a very serious situation...

Speed Racer had me thinking.. about what it takes to fight for a dream, why you fight for your dream, and all what it takes to walk your own path. Taught me what love of family can do and what it means to stick to your ideals, even though the rest of the world tells you to grow up.

That you don't do what you love because of the money or reward.... you do it because you love it.

Iron Man didn't make me think. It was a lot of fun and I really appreciated that the director cared about the fans and the world Iron Man inhabited.

Batman.... instead of loving the world of Batman, it seemed more like Nolan was embarassed of it and had to first of all make sure to take Batman out of that world, into ours and leave as much about the Universe of DC and Batman behind. I didn't like that.

a city that is losing it's soul and it's inhabitants are forced to play the devil or angels, and beleive that they are right in their actions no matter where it pulls them. There is more inspiration from the speeches about hunting heroes and chasing cars than there will EVER be in cars chasing each other and making wise-cracks in a suit of armour for two hours...that's a cakewalk for a good director, but more appetiser for the laziest kind of audience.

Those speeches didn't really inspire me so much as they did captivate my attention. There was really not much I could apply to my own life and have it uplift me. What it did was make for some powerful character interaction on scene that didn't leave me want to blink.

What I think takes more effort for a good director is to realize a world that isn't real at all tho. There was nothing really cool or practical in the Speed Racer world, yet the team behind it brought it to show stopping life that took my breath away. I don't now of a single other director that could have made Speed Racer look as good as it did and tell as good of a story as they told with it. A project like that is impossible. But for Batman... there's lots of talent out there that could make Bats look cool. And while I'd appreciate the blood and sweat it took to make it cool, Batman comes pre-packaged as cool.

Nolan.... kept it real. Outside of the Batcycle, there wasn't any inventiveness to the Nolan Batman world... there was strong story, plot structure, and story execution, but not much for imagination which is why I like super stuff. Using my imagination into a world that's not real.

This is the most respectful version of Gordon, Batman, Alfred, The Joker and Dent ever portrayed in cinema...period. Speed Racer really has nothing on this, it wasnt as faithful as you think, and certaingly came off as Lazy Town PORN compared to this, which is a TRUE Batman movie.

Hmmm.... you may be right about the most respectful of those characters ever portrayed. Can't deny you there, but with Dent, Gordon or Alfred.... that's not saymore much.

As for SR being faithful... **** that! I'd rather have a good movie than faithful crap.

And to the porn comparison, I can only intelligently reply to that with, "Duurrrr, durrr, derpty durrrrr, blah, blah, blah, blah." :rolleyes2:

Batman is the most grounded hero in comics, the combination of realism and comic elements are barely seperated to make it look like it can happen...the only thing you can't expand on in the Batman mythos is fracking Bat-Mite.

Comic movies OUGHT to be reallistic.

I think there should be a balance for a proper comic book movie... depending on the material.

Those are immensly gay ideas that would rob the franchises of any credibility or scope. The majority of comic fans know those ideas are crap both on paper AND in execution.

I do agree that doing those things with this franchise would take away from it.... which is why I wish they hadn't done it like this............ sorta. I mean, the world's a better place for having this movie. And it was by no means bad by any stretch of the imagination. Given the choice of this and having it done in the style of what The Watchmen looks like it's going for... I would've taken the latter and someday see a properly done Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, Killer Croc, Harely Quinn, Bane and Azreal. Not to mention a Superman team-up and JLA. Felt this route was short sighted and self conscious for the franchise.

I got back from seeing it a few hours ago. I thought it was a pretty okay movie. In terms of plot and execution, it was damn near flawless, but my main gripe with it was that it didn't feel like the Batman that I've known all my life (see: DC Animated Universe).

Also, why did Gordon smash the Bat Signal at the end? That didn't make any sense to me.

In order for Dent's dream to truly and fully live on like Bats and Gordon wanted, they had to make all of Harvey's murders seem like they were done by Batman. And if that were true, the police department could have no connection to a murderer.

Quite crap in execution. Nobody's going to swallow it, critics will know it for what it is, a cheap stunt, a "last legs" exercise with characters tumbling on bad one-liners and later each other. Too many things happening at once. Even JL's first season sucked, hell even the fifth is lackluster because everyone tripped over everybody else. The only reason JLU's third season stood out the best as a whole was because it mainly a Superman story

Yeah, if the police knew the murders were done by Harvey, all the captured criminals will be released, and everything they have done would have been for nothing. So Batman did the right thing, get the charges laid on him, they'll hate him for it, but thats the point of Batman. He has to run and people will chase him, even though we hate him he'll be a guardian angel at night, keeping watch over us. He is the true hero Gotham deserves, he is a Dark Knight.

IF you think they sacrifced what it means to be a hero in this movie... You were not watching the movie, or at the very least you got up and left before the ending.
