I think you misunderstand. I meant their personalities and backgrounds are played up more. In the better ones sometimes they even have lives outside of fighting monsters.

I got back from seeing it a few hours ago. I thought it was a pretty okay movie. In terms of plot and execution, it was damn near flawless, but my main gripe with it was that it didn't feel like the Batman that I've known all my life (see: DC Animated Universe).

Also, why did Gordon smash the Bat Signal at the end? That didn't make any sense to me.

Yeah guys it's so real. I mean every night I see millionaire playboys dress up as an animal, go out in super vehicles with all kinds of gadgets, and fight homicidal maniacs. I mean yeah it's so real. :shakefist

When people say realism for a plot that is so unrealistic, they mean they try to create it like it actually happened in our world, not something cheesy. But I can sense your sarcasm

Because Batman told Gordon to blame him for all the deaths Harvey caused and making him a wanted criminal. It was a symbolic cutting of the ties for the media to show they were series about the hunt.

It was symbolic of the fact that Batman is now officially a villian in the eyes of Gotham and will be hunted as such. You didnt think they were actually gonna leave the batsignal up after he "killed" cops did you?

And I agree with the realism thing. Its realistic in the scope of the DC Universe. Basically, it answers the question "IF someone decided to dress like a bat and fight crime, THIS is what would happen."

And that's a bad thing? The Animated batman shows past season 4 of the animated series suck.

The irony is...there's a few scenes in The Dark Knight that could easily have been something the DCAU team would do in their series. (Joker in the hospital for example...and Dent in the limo)

I really am getting sick of people kissing the ass of the animated universe and blinding themselves to any new version of Batman. That's not true fandom in my opinion, that's being a fan of one aspect, not appreciating all of them.

Some people need to learn it's not the end-all/be-all...and quite frankly, it's starting to look dated in contrast to where we're going with the Nolan movies. It contributed greatly to giving Batman and his characters serious, psychological edges, but Nolan is taking it one step further to being more grounded.

Batman Begins in my opinion was a lot closer to hitting an equilibrium that I think fits for Batman whereas Dark Knight, like a lot of the modern comics unfortunately, is very enamored and obsessed with its own darkness, sadism, and "realism" to a degree that divorces it from the previous film almost entirely.

Only if you allow it to, which you did. It didnt divorce from the previous film at all for me, it just enriched it....the lack of the monorail didnt even bother me
