The New Ultimate Spider-Man Is...

It seems that Donald Glover's attempt to addition for the role in the new Spider-Man movie inspired this, which is nice.

Hopefully, this will be used to tell interesting stories and not turn into another Freedom Ring Incident.

Yea..I remember that article on Donald Glover too. Very surprised this came back up again, and also happened to be the inspiration. That's great.

Frankly I am a little confused by Marvel here. Them seem like they are trying to saying ethnicity doesn't matter when it comes to heroes. Yet all they talk about here is his ethnicity. I get a bad feeling that he is just going to end up being known as "Black Spider-Man".

Frankly I think it would have been better for them to wait and reveal who the character under the mask was, let the audience get a feel for the character first. I know it sounds like I am saying Marvel should have hid his ethnicity, am not. My thing is Marvel is making ethnicity the character's defining trait, whether they intended to or not.

REALLY hope they do this right... draw him handsome... write him likeable and do NOT make his being a minority a continually referenced gimmick.

Seriously? Imagine that. I suppose I just hadn't noticed a cult fanbase. I did remember that he was in Edge of Time but didn't know he was the focus of the game. Good for him. :thumbs:

See that what is making me uneasy, his ethnicity right now seems like a gimmick. This whole situation makes me think about Dwayne McDuffie and how with his characters race was never their defining feature. While I applaud any attempt at diversify the superhero landscape, you have to be careful since it can go wrong quickly. Case in point look up DC's Black Bomber.
