If Hollywood wants to promote diversity, it should focus on utilizing existing POC characters or creating new characters that authentically represent underrepresented communities, instead of racebending white characters with established fan bases. We have witnessed the backlash and box office failures when white actors were cast in roles originally written for Asian characters, such as Son Goku, Makoto Kusanagi, and the Asian college kids from 21. On the other hand, characters like Blade, Princess Tiana, and Black Panther have proven that original Black characters can be successful and resonate with audiences. It is crucial for Hollywood to prioritize the creation of diverse and compelling characters, rather than implementing forced diversity through racebending.
